While pursuing my BS, I got a position at the college math lab as a shift tutor. My primary role was to help students with homework, and exam preparation in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Statistics classes. During my shifts, students brought selected problems and their course textbook at my station and I worked through the problem step by step at their presence. I made sure students understand each step before transitioning to the subsequent steps. Also, as a math lab policy, I had students to work through similar problems on the own and I evaluated their work afterwards. This method was effective overall because students witnessing someone solving complex problems and have opportunities to ask questions.
I left math lab after two years to focus on finishing my BS and I graduated around 2012. Upon graduation, I started working as an engineer and started my MS program at the same time. I graduated with MS in computer engineering in 2015 and moved up in my company in the same year. After long absence from math tutoring, I decided to return to it part time in 2018. I began uploading ads on the tutor job sites and I found clients in various grades. I mostly tutored few students each week and thought mostly Algebra and Pre-calculus courses. I was very flexible with my students as far as teaching methods. I usually meet with them at their home, or Starbucks and I followed similar methods I used in the past.
