I'm available for personal and small groups, students who wish to take their writing to the next level. The best " development" that you can offer your student includes valuable writing feedback on their writing. We will write, and I will share their strengths and what they need to do to improve! Becoming a strong writer, is an essential skill that is needed to have acdemic success at the elementary/middle school/ HS and university level. Let me help guide you or your student to writing success!

It's no secret, every student has to be a strong writer but how it's taught makes all the difference. My philosophy is to make it "interesting: for students. In a morning writing class that I teach before school (7:45 AM!) I have 30 students arriving before school who are enthusiastic about writing!

I have been working with several students who were preparing for their essays entering Medical School. My colleagues asked me for some of the "quick and easy" strategies for developing students into highly skilled writers and that lead to my book about empowering successful student writers.

With the emphasis on scoring well on standardized exams; i.e., SAT, TOFEL, PSAT, SBAC and CAASP, each student needs to be a diligent writer. It's TESTING TIME and I want to help your student to be confident and prepared for their standardized exams.

I have been working with several students both at my college and privately on their resumes. I have taught several workshops in which I discuss the appropriate vocabulary of a resume and a cover letter. I have had several international students who ask for business role playing (ie use of correct idioms) as well. In my Public Speaking class students practice mock interviews.

I have been teaching a standardized test review at my school for the past 3 years. I teach a 1 month orientation that focuses on: study skills review, reading comprehension practice, writing the essay and HS math review. I currently have a student in my school that I am teaching and practicing with, particularly the "how to's" of constructing the CBEST essay. We also spend a great deal of time examining vocabulary by practicing synonyms, antonyms and descriptive language.

I am the writing specialist in the Palos Verdes Unified School District. I have taught elementary,middle school,HS and college course since 1994. Our school district recently began testing for the common core with the SBAC, I rotate between two schools and I'm the teacher of the SBAC test prep, as it realtes to the common core. Areas targeted including: inrepreting reading conmprehension with eveidence, garmmar , writing a) with evidence to support b) opinion essays c) compare and contarst d) writing summaries.

I have taught from 3rd-6th grade Math in the Little Lake school district. I believe all students can succeed in Math, if they have a one-on-one teacher that shares simple strategies. Most of the elementary Math is about building skills in Math concepts.

I have taught English for the past twenty years, from the elementary levels to the college level. I am a writing fellow at both UCLA and CSULB's National Writing Project. I have a passion for developing all students into proficient writers. I am the writing specialist in the Palos Verdes Unified School District.

I have taught every level of ESL from the beginning to the advanced multiple times. I teach a 5 day 5 hour intensive ESL class at a local college in Los Angeles. Each year I teach over 1000 hours of ESL, including TOEFL test prep.

I have taught anatomy, medical terminology and NCLEX test prep for the past 3 years to nursing students at CBD College in L.A., a vocational school. I have adapted medical textbooks and taught a 1-hour medical textbook review to each module in each semester.

Since the GED has changed in 2014, I have taught several test prep classes that follow the new format. The key of this new test in all subject areas- develop high academic vocabulary, understand the test vocabulary and be trained/prepared to produce writing on demand.

I have taught English 102- Public Speaking to college students studying for their AA degrees at CBD College in Los Angeles for 3 years. I also taught a "truncated" 5 week version of the course to HS students preparing for college entry at USC, through their Upward Bound program.

I have taught several standardized test classes. I've taught an SAT boot camp, TOEFL practice , GED and NCLEX practice. I enjoy sharing the strategies that help students pass their exams!

I have taught Social Science as part of a block at the middle school along with language arts. I always incorporate various forms of writing for students to gain comprehension. In 8th grade, students are studying American History.For example when teaching 8th graders, they had to write a persuasive essay from the perspective of Lincoln and justify the reasoning for the Civil war.

As an ESL language teacher with over 17 years of teaching experience, I teach pronunciation and tongue positions to all my ESL students. It is imperative for these students, for example, to understand that the "th" blend in English that occurs in words such as "this, that," "other, mother," and "south, north" requires their tongue to push out and come out of their mouth when saying the "th" for correct pronunciation.

Spelling skills are about gaining familiarity with patterns, as well as prefixes and suffixes. I've taught elementary and even nurses how to learn how to spell correctly and increase their vocabulary. Let's have fun learning and practicing, as your student builds confidence.

STAAR testing - I have been a classroom teacher for over 20 years in both public and private schools. I have taught test preparation for all standardized exams to both teachers and students. I am a licensed and credentialed English writing teacher grades k-12.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have helped elementary-middle school and college students develop appropriate study skills. My strategies include teaching them how to preread a chapter by looking at topic names, subtopics, captions and photos. I also share a strategy called QAD- question answer detail, after reading a long paragraph- write a simple question, simple answer, fill in with bullet points as details. These strategies and more get the student writing and absorbing comprehension.

I have tutored several students on various standardized exams including the SAT, PSAT, NCLEX, TOEFL and TEAS. As part of a 1 month orientation at CBD College in L.A. I prepared students for the basic skills exam. the TEAS is an aptitude test which asks for differentiation of vocabulary, study skills, math skills and most of all critical thinking skills. I teach every student how to be a proficent reader and writer and how to make note and be aware of academic testing language. The students at WyzAnt will be well served by my writing, reading and test prep review.

The TOEFL is a standardized exam that is a test of the students English proficiency. I have taught and tutored many students in both standardized exams prep and in TOEFL prep. I believe the key is practicing writing and conversation. The writing will strengthen your vocabulary and reading comprehension. Practicing conversation is an essential skill needed to be successful on the exam.

I help and develop all my student academic vocabulary. By exposing students to various forms of reading comprehension (i.e. excerpts from books, magazine articles, poems and songs) students are introduced to vocabulary. I create many vocabulary building exercises for the specific level of each group of students.
