I am an experienced math educator and tutor with over 10 years of experience helping middle school, high school, and college students. I have taught and tutored students in Prealgebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus, including AP Calculus. My background in engineering from Seoul National University gives me a strong foundation in mathematics, and I have also completed a Single Subject Mathematics Teaching Credential program at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Through my experience as a classroom teacher and private tutor, I have worked with students at many different levels, from those struggling with basic concepts to advanced students taking honors and accelerated math courses.
My tutoring approach focuses on understanding how each student thinks and identifying the specific point where a concept becomes confusing. I do not simply show students a formula or ask them to memorize steps. Instead, I explain why a method works, connect new ideas to concepts they already understand, and help them recognize patterns in their own mistakes. I adjust my explanations and examples based on each student's level and learning style, and I often use a student's schoolwork, homework, or recent assessments to identify areas that need additional support.
My goal is not only to help students solve the problem in front of them, but also to build the mathematical understanding and confidence they need to work independently. I especially enjoy helping students who understand more than they think they do but have lost confidence because of repeated mistakes or difficult classroom experiences. Whether a student needs support in Algebra, preparation for an honors course, or help with advanced topics in Precalculus or AP Calculus, I work to make mathematics clear, logical, and manageable.
