I've been tutoring ACT prep for 4 years, and teaching high school students for 10 years, including the English section. My students tend to improve a great deal. My most recent student's composite score raised from 24 to 29 after a summer of weekly lessons.

I have helped many students prepare for their first ACT test, using whichever prep book they prefer. I've also helped numerous students raise any previous scores by helping them with any gaps in their math knowledge. I do tailor each student's sessions by what their issue tends to be: understand math concepts, strategies for ACT questions, Test-taking slowness or test anxiety.

I’ve been tutoring for the ACT for 10 years. I help with strategies based on how I see the student reads and comprehends a passage. I know how basic ACT test-taking strategies work as well, and can help them with it. Sessions with me usually bring up the student’s score significantly!

I have 7 years experience with Algebra 1 students, both common core and earlier methods. Knowing that many students lack the tools to be able to identify what approach or formula to use, I focus on making sure student understands concepts AND how they relate to different problems, helping them know how to approach new problems. Each textbook teaches differently, so I like to look over their textbook in the first meeting so I can best help them.

Even if you are not good at math, I can help you with your Algebra 2 class. We can work together to figure out what is missing, and step by step go forward. I can help with homework and prepare for tests. My students grades improve after working with me.

I have many years experience helping students to understand the big picture, to make connections between events and movements so they can remember them. I teach them how to write about it effectively, and to study according to their particular classroom needs. Your US History class, in high school or college, can be a success!

I have a BA in Psychology from UCLA, which heavily focused on anatomy and physiology, and also have experience working as a certified Physical Therapy Assistant. Most recently, I've tutored high school and college students in Anatomy classes or combined A&P classes. I focus on teaching an understanding physiological processes and how one organ system affects another. I'm good at helping students by personalizing study techniques to their strengths and weaknesses. Together, we will create study pages for each chapter or section, practice repetition techniques, and make sure the student understands all the details of any system.

I love biology! I can help high school or college students in their class. I find new ways to explain the concepts and systems they find difficult. I'm great at giving them study aids for reviewing material, showing them how to make images and using mnemonics. The information can be overwhelming until I help them categorize the information and learn in that way.

I had success as an English tutor, helping with with writing, grammar, vocabulary, literature, and classwork assignments. I can help with presentations, critical analysis, and planning and organizing essays and assignments. I give useful help in beginning projects, brainstorming essays, and finding which thesis is best suited to the assignment and which supports are the strongest.

I can help! Not all geometry classes are the same, but I've helped students through many types. Some students have difficulty in visualization of shapes and angles, some in applying algebra to coordinate geometry, and some in understanding the basic ideas of 2D/3D to area volume and surface area. Many students have trouble organizing the theorems and postulates for use in solutions. Whatever the issues, I help students figure them out and tailor my tutoring to help them.

I have a BA from UCLA in Psychology, have a firm grasp on grammar, and experience helping students with grammar. Even many college students have trouble with the basics and need help. I have working with many students over many years, and can make it clear!

I have home educated my four children for fifteen years successfully. I taught them each to read, write and perform arithmetic problems. I taught them history, literature, science and basic art. I can help with elementary, middle and high school. I can help determine a courseload and to help make sure high school classes are up to college standards and records are kept. I can help make transcripts and help plan for transcripts. My oldest successfully earned a 100% scholarship to a private university and got a 31 on the ACT, and has greater than a 3.5. GPA after her sophomore year. My second is thriving in theater and undergraduate studies. My third child successfully shifted into the local public high school as a freshman without any deficits. I still home educate my fourth child.

I have a wide range of literature experience. I have taught literature for more 15 years and am well read in classics and humanities as well as modern lit. I have experience in literature analysis and in understanding literary terms and literary tool usage. I love to help students with literature!

Philosophy

Philosophy is a challenging and fascinating subject, one I have taught for the last four years as a survey course for high school students who are home educated. From the early Greeks to the modern movements, I can help students identify movements in philosophy and understand some of the most difficult ideas. With my tutoring help, students will be better able to succeed in their classroom.

I completed a week-long 40-hour Study Skills intensive at Santa Barbara City College. I have proficiency from that seminar and also skills I have used with 5-12 grade and college students. I can show students how to study material from a textbook, breaking it down into tasks. I can teach how to take notes, how to study from notes, writing and rewriting as necessary. I can teach students how to make a note-page of important information to study from. I can teach how to listen and take notes from aural media. I can help students tailor their approach to time management, choosing one of several different ways to organize time depending on their learning style, making the effort and time most efficient for them.

I have an excellent vocabulary and have found ways to pass it on to students. I will utilize oral readings (student and tutor) and word root methods. Words have such power and I enjoy equipping students with greater vocabulary.

I help students understand how an event relates to other events and time periods, making it much easier to remember and compare. I help make the content in their textbooks and lectures more understandable, making major points clearer for them. My study help and writing help has been key for my students as well.
