I began a lifelong passion of learning foreign languages at the age of 7, and after studying both French and Spanish for 11 years I undertook a BA in Modern Arabic Studies with a Spanish minor. I traveled to Cairo, Egypt where I received a certificate to teach English as a Foreign Language and completed a year of teaching English in a private school in Cairo.
Upon discovering the rewards and a passion for teaching, I then pursued a 2 year Post Graduate Certificate to teach French to 11-18 year olds and worked for a number of schools in the UK.
I was also employed by a number of agencies there and tutored French to adults and children of differing ages.
During my time in Southern California, I have been teaching home-school groups and school-aged children for the Parks and Recreation Department. I have established a great rapport with all my students and during the last 10 years, have accumulated many effective teaching resources and methods to assist my pupils during their journey of learning a foreign language. Melanie is greatly helping my son, Quinn with French. She worked with us to figure out a strategy so my son can get the most from the tutoring time and she has given him work to review for enhanced learning
Melanie is great. She is patient, methodical, and has a undisguisable passion for linguistics. She is meticulous in discerning the slightest nuances in pronunciation and practice with me until I get it. She packs three or four different approaches in each lesson - vocabulary, dialog, grammar, etc - the brain gets the needed exercise for learning a new language effectively. I feel fortunate to have found her!
I am leaning far more with Melanie's assistance then I could ever on my own. I am in college-level French with little previous experience with the language. The curriculum is dense and fast-paced and Melanie's help has been crucial. Two thumbs up!
Amazing tutor. She is kind to my son and incredibly prepared. She has even gone to his teacher's web page to research homework assignments and tests assigned. Awesome!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
