I graduated from UCLA with honors in Economics while completing the premedical science curriculum, earning a 3.86 science GPA. I scored a 1530 on the SAT and a 518 on the MCAT, including a perfect 132 in the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS) section. I earned my MCAT score before completing all of the traditional premedical prerequisite coursework, which required me to teach myself unfamiliar material and develop efficient ways to learn, retain, and apply new concepts. My background spans biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, economics, and reading comprehension, and I enjoy helping students develop both subject knowledge and stronger problem-solving skills.
My most extensive teaching experience comes from serving as a Biology Learning Assistant at UCLA for three academic quarters in the Life Sciences 7B and 7C sequence. I worked directly with undergraduate students in the classroom, guiding them through problems in genetics, evolution, ecology, and physiology. Instead of simply giving students an answer, I try to identify where their reasoning begins to go off track and ask questions that help them reach the solution themselves. I have also worked extensively with younger students through educational and mentoring programs, which taught me to adjust my explanations to different ages, learning styles, and levels of confidence.
My goal is for students to understand the reasoning behind what they are learning well enough to eventually solve problems independently. I am patient and happy to explain the same idea several different ways until it clicks. Whether a student is working through a difficult class, preparing for the SAT or MCAT, or trying to become a more confident reader and problem solver, I tailor each session to the individual student.
