Hi! My name is Sophie. I'm an analyst turned homeschool mom with a deep love for math and statistics as tools to understand the world around us. I majored in Public Health with a minor in Statistics, working through college as a statistics teaching assistant. I worked with both future actuaries and students who were crossing the stats requirements off as fast as they could. My favorite part was always when a new way of thinking about a concept helped a student have their "aha!" moment.

Most of my teaching experience for stats involved small informal groups or one-on-one question and homework help sessions with young adult (and not so young adult) college students. I also led large group study sessions periodically, and on one memorable occasion, stepped in to teach a session of a class I was taking when my professor (and boss) lost her voice. In addition to tutoring college level students in statistics, I have regularly worked with elementary age kids as a health educator, school volunteer, and mom.
My focus as a tutor is introductory statistics, though I am also very comfortable with elementary math skills, algebra, and geometry. If we work together, you can expect me to walk through a principle you're working on with you, provide example problems, then ask you lots of questions about what you did, and why it worked or didn't. I may even ask you to keep an eye out for that principle to show up outside of math class. You might be surprised how often they do!
