As a flute instructor, Mrs. M. maintains an active private teaching studio of students all ages and levels in the San Gabriel Valley. Her students have earned top positions in highly competitive ensembles, including SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Groups, CBDA All-State Honor Groups, Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Pasadena Youth Symphony, in addition to college music major admission. As an MTAC certified instructor, she helps prepare students for Certificate of Merit testing and has maintained a 100% studio pass rate on the exam since she began teaching the program. She finds no greater reward than sharing her passion for music with others!
As an orchestral flutist, Mrs. M. was recently appointed 3rd Flute/Piccolo of the Redlands Symphony and 2nd Flute/Piccolo of the Marin Symphony. Additionally, she holds the positions of Second Flute with the California Symphony and 2nd Flute/Piccolo of the Stockton Symphony. Mrs. M. has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, including their November 2019 World Tour to Mexico City, London, Boston and New York with featured artists Yuja Wang and Herbie Hancock. In addition, Mrs. M. is active in the Los Angeles recording scene and can be heard on Obamas' Netflix documentary "American Factory", documentary "Women in Blue", and the Bollywood film "Sairat" recorded at Sony Pictures Studios.
With 15 years of teaching experience, Mrs. M. currently works with students ranging from elementary school through adult. Mrs. M. received her MM and BM from the USC Thornton School of Music.
Students have many opportunities to excel and showcase their musical craft. This includes recitals, auditions, competitions, concerts, and the annually-held MTAC Certificate of Merit. Even during the pandemic, there are still lots of exciting, fun activities held online to promote student growth and showcase talent.
