Bio

My name is Lindsey. I have been teaching 6th and 8th grade math at Black Mountain Middle School in California for over 10 years. I have taught over 1000+ students and I have great experience working with students that have learning disabilities such as autism, ADD, ADHD, etc. The subjects that I have taught and I am qualified to tutor are Pre-Algebra (Grade 6 -8), Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Integrated 1 and Integrated 2. I also have taught ELL Math for English Language Learners. I know...

I know what it is like to struggle in math and finally get to that moment where everything clicks. I failed math in elementary and middle school because most of my teachers were very strict and I never felt comfortable enough to ask for help when I needed it. This is why I chose to become a math teacher. I hope to give students that comfort and safety that I was lacking.

I believe that in order to tutor in a subject you must be passionate about it... and indeed I am! I went into teaching because I wanted to provide students with a comfortable, safe, and positive experience to get the help they need. I have also earned my Master's Degree in Math Education! I use a lot of questioning and positive feedback techniques to help encourage students with their math abilities. I love teaching each and every day, and I am sure I would love to tutor you as well!

ADHD

ADHD

I have just received my teaching credential this year from Cal State San Marcos. I spent one semester of student teaching a 6th grade inclusion class in which I worked with students who have Autism, ADD , ADHD, and other disabilities. This took place at a public charter school built on the inclusion model and project based learning. I have also been tutoring several students since 2012 with ADD/ ADHD. I spent my Fall semester of 2013 student teaching in a Geometry class at a Continuation school, which is a school that was created to help students get back on track and graduate high school. This class was composed of mainly juniors and seniors and several students in this class had ADD/ADHD. I have had many experiences that have allowed me to work with students of multiple disabilities, especially ADD/ADHD.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I highly believe that Algebra 1 is the fundamental math class that you just can't miss. Algebra 1 covers many different topics that are just built upon in Geometry, Algebra 1, pre-calculus, and beyond. Once you gain an understanding in Algebra 1, your math success will skyrocket! I have been tutoring Algebra 1 to high school and middle school students at a probation school for the past two and a half years as a Teaching Assistant. Most of my students transition to alternative schools or just try to get their GED because they are so credit deficient. My students have been able to pass their CAHSEE and GED tests with a thorough Algebra understanding. When you are able to conquer Algebra, you can conquer the world!
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 can't be properly understood without a thorough understanding of Algebra 1. It makes sense, but in actuality the concepts and functions of Algebra 2 are built upon Algebra 1. I understand the need for a strong foundation in Algebra 1 and can provide that for a great outcome in Algebra 2!
ASVAB

ASVAB

I have tutored two brothers in preparing for their ASVAB and after being tutored both brothers were significantly able to raise their score and qualify for the careers that they wanted all along. In order to beat the ASVAB you need a strong foundation in percentages and algebra, which can also be used in the real world!
Common Core

Common Core

I have obtained a K - 12 common core math credential from California State University San Marcos in 2012. I have been teaching 6th and 8th grade common core math for the past 6 years. I have been tutoring K - 12 math for the past 10+ years.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been tutoring K - 12 math for the past 10+ years. I also have a K - 12 Math credential which authorizes me to teach K - 12 math. I have been teaching 6th grade math and 8th grade math for the past 6 years.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

In order to be good at math, you need a good foundation! This is what elementary mathematics provides for all students. Once you get a good head start, you will most likely have a great outcome in higher level mathematics! I understand this and will work hard to ensure that you will have a good head start!
GED

GED

The GED is mainly comprised of concepts from Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 with a hint of Geometry. I understand all these three concepts and will help you get a passing score!
Geometry

Geometry

In transitioning from Algebra 1 to Geometry, many students can get lost because Geometry is a completely different method of thinking. Algebra is all about critical/abstract thinking while Geometry introduces visual thinking. I understand this and will make sure you are a visual thinker that is succeeding!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

In order to succeed in Algebra, you need a strong foundation in Pre-Algebra. After all, it is titled "Pre-Algebra" for a reason. I have great experience in this subject and I am able to prepare you to not only succeed in this subject but Algebra as well!

Dedicated and Knowledgeable Teacher

Ms. Lindsey is my daughter’s favorite tutor. She has helped my daughter tremendously. My daughter use to be very anxious when it comes to math and was struggling. Ms. Lindsey is able to simplify and explain math concepts in a way that my daughter understands. Her grades was a D in the first quarter and now she has an A in the 4th quarter. She is no longer anxious when there is a math test. I highly recommend Ms. Lindsey.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

My son really enjoys working with Lindsey. She makes him feel comfortable enough to ask questions and feel like he's being heard. It's important for my son to feel like he is being heard otherwise he just shuts down. I really feel like he's improving and im hoping as time goes by I'll see his confidence rise. Things are still very new.
