Hello there! My name is Jenna, and I absolutely adore teaching. During the day, I teach history to a delightful bunch of tenth graders, who would be the first to tell you that my teaching style is "quirky and enthusiastic!" I am so looking forward to bringing that same energy and excitement to helping you with your work!
Besides being enthusiastic, I am also very experienced. I have a PhD in history from USC, and five years of experience teaching history in a prestigious private school....
I have a PhD in history from USC, and five years of experience teaching history in a prestigious private school. But I also have experience with learners of all types, as I work for a company that brings college-level English courses to Title I high schools, and one of my favorite challenges is finding the right way to make lessons make sense for EACH learner-- we don't all learn the same way, and I take great pride and pleasure in helping each one of my students find what works for them. As such, I also have experience in teaching and tutoring remotely-- even before the pandemic!-- so I feel confident in my ability to deliver tutoring in whatever way works best for you.
Studies have shown that students grasp concepts better when they're having fun, and I have modeled my own teaching and tutoring methodology around that principal. I use multiple modalities to help students access materials, use a variety of fun games, stories, analogies, and lesson types, and just genuinely try to make tutoring and learning as fun and painless as possible. Whether it's learning to write a thesis statement or understanding the impact of the industrial revolution on global trade, I have ways to break it down and seem much more manageable!
I have experience teaching students from K-12, college learners, and even adult students, so whatever kind of learner you are, I'm excited to get to know you and help make learning fun!
