I'm new to WyzAnt but have been a tutor for over 5 years.
I graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor's Degree in Design & Film. Reading, writing, and analysis were part of my every day. As I improved my own writing through hours of collaboration with my professors and TAs, I simultaneously observed and absorbed the methods that they used to teach me. I valued their ability to make learning fun and to guide me to finding answers and thinking creatively, which is an approach I employ when engaging my own students.
My experience in tutoring dates back to high school, where I would regularly spend my after school time in peer-to-peer tutoring programs. This was when I first realized my skill and passion for tutoring, whether I was helping them with day-to-day homework, exam prep, or proofreading their essays. Over the last 3 years, I have been tutoring middle and high school students professionally, sourcing students from word-of-mouth and local community boards. As an ex-Wyzant tutee who received Chemistry tutoring in high school, I'm excited to join Wyzant as a tutor myself, teaching what I know best - English, reading, and writing.
My previous students have worked together with me to bolster their confidence in reading and writing and have bumped their grades from C's and B's to A's. Their college application essays have landed them at Tier 1 schools, including MIT, UC Berkeley, Brown, Northwestern, & Purdue. As a tutor, I'm great at meeting students at their current skill level, making content approachable, and setting long term improvement goals through lesson planning.
