My name is Ariv B. I am a current computer engineering major at the University of Michigan and graduated from Sacred Heart Schools in Menlo Park, California.
During high school, I was a lead teaching assistant for Peninsula Bridge, an organization that offers free summer school to underserved middle school students in order to make sure they don't fall behind over the summer. I did this program for 3 years. As a lead teaching assistant, I taught science, math, and English summer classes. I also worked with other teachers to manage lesson plans, games, and activities for the children. This experience taught me valuable lessons in how to be an effective teacher.
Now, my teaching method involves plenty of interactive activities as well as positive reinforcement. For example, every time my students would quickly stop talking after I went "BUM-BA-DA-BUM-BUM", they would receive a point. If they collected enough points by the end of the week, I would make half of our end-of-week class movie time.
Furthermore, during my freshman and sophomore years, I was a tennis coach at Dexterity Tennis, where I taught tennis fundamentals to elementary school kids. As a summer tennis coach, I ran games and practice drills for a court of 8 kids. I would also work with the other coaches to organize “big games” involving the entire camp on one court.
