Hi there!

I'm Renuka C, and I hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. I recently completed my postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco. I also have a Master's in Pharmacology and a Bachelor's in Pharmacy from India.

Throughout my Ph.D. and postdoc, I’ve tutored and mentored undergraduate students and interns, providing hands-on training in understanding molecular biology mechanism, use techniques such as bioassays and cell-based experiments. As part of the SMART Biomedical Sciences program, I guided ~10 students through experimental design and helped reinforce core concepts in cell and molecular biology. By the end of their training, they could independently run experiments and present their findings at conferences.
My tutoring approach focuses on helping students build strong foundational understanding so they can confidently tackle complex topics. I identify each student's needs and use visual aids (animations, presentations, etc.) to deepen learning. I believe learning is a process of trial and error—and mistakes are valuable learning opportunities. I emphasize reasoning over memorization.

For example, one intern I mentored mistakenly added the wrong reagent, leading to cell death. Rather than just correcting the error, I walked them through the biology: the type of cells used, what went wrong, and how to troubleshoot and prevent it in future experiments. This helped them become more confident and independent in the lab.
