My name's Jiya, I'm living and building a space hardware startup in the Bay Area! I received my undergraduate degree in materials science and my master's in aerospace engineering from Stanford. During my time there I was a TA and private tutor for both engineering and technical writing. During my career in the commercial space industry I've been the lead engineer on several successful science payloads that have operated on the International Space Station, and I spent a few years building lunar landers! I've had the opportunity in my work to solve a whole host of problems across technical fields, hardware integration, and interpersonal communication.
While I'm happy to dive into any of these subject where I could be helpful, I'm especially passionate about helping students hone their writing and communication skills. I have a great deal of experience working with high school students on their college application essays. I am a first generation college graduate and was a QuestBridge Match recipient at Stanford. Applying to competitive colleges takes a great deal of work, and I'm here to help you through that process. I've mentored several other first generation college students who were accepted into some of the most competitive programs in the country.
To help you improve your writing and communication, my tutoring style begins with a conversation. I'd like to get to know you, understand your goals, and outline what we'd like to accomplish together. The next step is reviewing your most recent work so that I can provide feedback on your story, writing flow, grammar, and delivery. While I encourage you to come to our first session with a rough draft, don't worry if you don't have one yet! We can make an outline together first.
I'm excited to get started, and I'm looking forward to working with you!
