I have a B.A. in Sociology from UCLA and an MA in Educational Foundations from California State University, Los Angeles. I have tutored students intensively for the past three years in math (Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II). My goal for my students is for them to acquire the skills to proficiently solve the math problems on their exams. As such, I endeavor to effectively use tutoring time wisely. I desire that tutoring sessions are spent on subject matter students need help with (selected homework, quiz, or test problems) and that no precious tutoring time is wasted. My tutoring experience and tenure as a middle and high school math teacher (pre-algebra and algebra I) equips me with a reservoir of instructional strategies, as well as math content knowledge, to help students of diverse skill proficiencies and learning modalities succeed in math. I view the parents of students as partners in our mutual goal of student academic success. I review tutoring session content at the end of each session and welcome parental input about subsequent tutoring session content. Parental knowledge of their student’s academic and personal strengths and weaknesses helps me tutor my students effectively. I take great satisfaction in the progress, achievement, and improved self-confidence of my students. I welcome the opportunity to help my students succeed in math.

William is very knowledgeable and professional. He is great with my daughter and she feels comfortable with his teaching methods. Her scores are beginning to improve after just 3 short weeks.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored algebra 1 frequently over the past four years. I also taught algebra at the high school level for many summers and taught middle school math for fifteen years. My ability to teach algebra 1 with varied instructional strategies enables me to tutor a student in ways that help to increase his/her test scores and grade.
I have tutored algebra 2 frequently over the past four years, and have teaching experience at the high school and middle school levels. My knowledge of algebra 2, in combination with the varied instructional techniques acquired and applied during my experience as a teacher and tutor, enable me to tutor students of diverse skill levels and learning modalities effectively, thus raising their test scores and grade.
