I have a B.A. in Sociology from UCLA and an MA in Educational Foundations from California State University, Los Angeles. I have tutored students intensively for the past three years in math (Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II). My goal for my students is for them to acquire the skills to proficiently solve the math problems on their exams. As such, I endeavor to effectively use tutoring time wisely. I desire that tutoring sessions are spent on subject matter students need help with (selected homework, quiz, or test problems) and that no precious tutoring time is wasted. My tutoring experience and tenure as a middle and high school math teacher (pre-algebra and algebra I) equips me with a reservoir of instructional strategies, as well as math content knowledge, to help students of diverse skill proficiencies and learning modalities succeed in math. I view the parents of students as partners in our mutual goal of student academic success. I review tutoring session content at the end of each session and welcome parental input about subsequent tutoring session content. Parental knowledge of their student’s academic and personal strengths and weaknesses helps me tutor my students effectively. I take great satisfaction in the progress, achievement, and improved self-confidence of my students. I welcome the opportunity to help my students succeed in math.
