The greatest teacher is a learner and the greatest thing one can teach is to learn. I became a teacher because of my own passion for learning. This passion is contagious and makes learning with me fun and interesting. I have 15 years of experience teaching students of nearly all ages in both the US and China. I specialize in language, history and mastering fundamentals. I graduated with honors in Religious Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and spent 7 years of my adult life in Asia. I speak Mandarin at a near-native level and also some Spanish.

Classes are customized to the individual. I am adaptable to and interested in the passions and needs of my students. My focus is the basics. Mastering fundamental knowledge/concepts is the key to learning. Whether it's English or Math, I endeavor to teach students how to fish rather than to catch fish for them--to develop a mindset and study habits that make them an independent learner.

The student and the teacher together grow the teaching. Let's have a chat and see if we can learn together!

World History

As both a student and teacher of history, I focus on watershed moments and events that defined major changes and movements in culture and society. My goal is to understand how these events and movements of the past shaped the future, even up to the present. I have a particular specialty with Modern World History from the 1800s to the present and Ancient History. I also specialize in US History and Chinese History. I have a BA with Honors in Religious Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and my course work included many historical courses. But my personal study of religion goes much deeper than that coursework. As a writer and actor, to me, history is alive and living, and I make it come alive for my students.
