Now that I've completed my PhD, I'm back tutoring on Wyzant since making top 10% tutor in 2020.

Application essays: I help undergraduate, graduate, professional, and fellowship applicants hone their rough drafts into polished final products that leave an impression through eloquence and experiential truth. My students, clients, and tutees have been accepted at Berkeley, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, NYU, UCLA, Michigan, University College London, Temple Law, the medical colleges of Georgia and Wisconsin, and the UNC Chapel Hill pharmacy program, among other schools.

Editing & proofreading: I work with all genres of academic writing in all subjects, including dissertations, master's and honors theses, and course papers. I have a year of experience as a contract proofreader with ProofreadingPal in Iowa City, where I edited in MLA, Chicago, and APA styles for clarity and concision while preserving the writer's unique voice. I was a writing consultant for undergraduate and graduate students at the UGA Willis Center for Writing for the 2021 calendar year.

English, Russian, and comparative literature: If you're writing any type of literary analysis from course paper to dissertation, I have expertise to share. I've taught composition through literature at UGA and assisted with the teaching of Russian literature at Stanford and Columbia.

Creative writing: I've taught introductory creative writing and intermediate fiction writing at UGA, where I also dissertated on contemporary disability poetics. Under my pen name Genevieve Arlie, I've been nominated for Best of the Net and The Best Small Fictions and made poetry finalist for the Disquiet Literary Prize. Contact me for help on any genre of creative writing or applications to MFA programs.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

In 2015, I graduated with an MFA in comparative literature–translation from the University of Iowa, where I translated a chapbook of poems from the Russian for my thesis. Ten years later, I completed a PhD in English with a creative dissertation at the University of Georgia, where I dissertated on contemporary disability poetics. I have taught introductory creative writing and intermediate fiction writing at the university level and led community workshops in translation and poetry, respectively.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

From August 2020 to May 2025 at the University of Georgia, I taught four sections of college composition through rhetoric and two sections through literature. I designed all the syllabi myself to emphasize reflective, evaluative, analytic, critical, and persuasive writing. Sample assignments included a memoir, a media review, a compare/contrast paper, and research paper. Rather than require a textbook, I directed students to resources from university writing centers around the nation, especially the Purdue Online Writing Lab.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have Proofread and/or edited documents submitted by outside writers to conform to MLA, Chicago, APA, AP, or Bluebook formatting styles. Preserved the writer's voice while correcting common errors in grammar, syntax, and usage.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

In April of this year, I successfully defended my creative dissertation in English at the University of Georgia. Later in June, I facilitated a five-day dissertation writing retreat through the Graduate School and the Willis Center for Writing. In this role, I guided twenty PhD candidates from subjects across campus in the outlining, drafting, revising, and formatting of their dissertations. My strengths as an editor include clarity, concision, and restructuring.

Great tutor

Genevieve G was the best tutor I had on the website. She is genuine and very intelligent. She makes learning vocabulary fun, always able to make a memorable connection to words. I improved my GRE score by ten points with her strategies and guidance. I improved from a 139 to a 149. I enjoy her work ethnic and her support and would recommend her to anyone who is trying to improve their GRE score.

Understanding, knowledgeable, and very patient Tutor

I had four sessions with Genevieve. I'm a current grad student in Creative Non-fiction writing. Genevieve helped me review a few of my essays from class. She was very patient with me. I asked her a lot of questions and she was nice about explaining words and grammar rules to me. She was kind and understanding as we walked through the things I needed to work on. I would recommend her to anyone!
