My name’s Rick and I’d love to work with you. I’ve been tutoring students in math, science, ACT & SAT prep for over 20 years (30,000+ hrs) and have 6 years of classroom teaching experience grades 7-12 (Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Bio, Chemistry). I gained my expertise at DePaul U. in Chicago, where I earned straight A’s in my Calculus, Bio, Physics and Chemistry Post-Baccalaureate courses. I learned how to teach in the U.S. Space Program, where I worked for 3 years, launching and tracking satellites, and training others how to do it. My students have ranged in age from 5-60, with most being in grades 7-12.
Many of my SAT & ACT students score in the 95th-99th percentile and have gained admission into some of the top universities in the nation, among them Yale, Harvard and Brown. I’ve also seen the same for the students I’ve tutored in Algebra, Pre-algebra, Geometry, Trig, and Chemistry. For SAT & ACT students, I create a personal webpage that contains all homework assignments, links to downloadable practice tests, a progress record that shows your score on each practice test taken, calculator practice links, and much much more.
If you struggle understanding the language of math and science, I know where you’re coming from. When I was in high school it was foreign to me, so I shied away from those courses. But after college, when I found myself working shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of math and science guys launching satellites into space, I soon learned that the language they spoke wasn’t all that difficult to understand, it just needed to be translated into something that a new learner could comprehend. That’s where I learned the secret of teaching—take something that appears to be complicated, break it down into a series of steps that are easy to comprehend, and tailor the explanation to the way the student learns. It’s not rocket science; it’s the way we learn.
If have any questions, please don’t hesitate message me. I’ll be happy to answer them and will get back to you right away. Thanks!
