I have my BA degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. I worked as a college tutor throughout my college years with adult ESL learners. Then, I owned a licensed childcare business which included tutoring school-age students (K-6th grade) - for almost 5 years. Recently, I have worked as a substitute teacher for multiple school districts, various grades (k-12). I am a 3rd generation educator. I place a very high value on providing quality education and being positive in the lives of the students and families that I work with. English is my favorite subject. I welcome the opportunity to work with parents so that my time with students is specifically geared to their educational needs. I also enjoy several hobbies (like cooking and photography). I understand the value of healthy meals and how proper nutrition benefits us in so many ways - energy, strength, endurance, focus, quality of sleep, mood, proper development and growth, etc.

I LOVE the English language - spelling, grammar, punctuation, definition, diversity of meanings, opportunity for creative thought as a means of expression, and, its many forms (written word, reading, music, song, poetry, etc). It's all so very interesting and relevant to me and in our world. It is fascinating to me and I truly enjoy helping others to understand it better and learn to appreciate it. Hopefully, after working with me, they will learn to enjoy it as much as I do.

I have worked in CA as a substitute teacher consistently (various school districts) for the past 2 years. I substitute teach for grades K-12 but specialize in K-5 with an emphasis on K-3. This past year, I worked a full school year as a long-term substitute teacher and, as the "teacher of record" taught 2nd grade. This included both county, district and state testing in common core areas such as Math, English and Reading. I am confident that all of this relevant and recent experience qualifies me to be a successful tutor in the area of common core.

I enjoy making it interesting and fun while also focusing on pleasing (all) the senses. I have been cooking (and continue to increase my knowledge base) for over 40 years. Farnsworth who has taught many students who have gone on to have successful careers in both live theater, motion pictures (as well as in other venues such as radio and public broadcasting). I feel this has given me a strong basis for nurturing and teaching students who have an interest in theater and/or dramatic arts. While in college, continued my studies in acting and theater, being cast in several plays both on campus and in community theater. As a substitute teacher, I have worked with high school students in theater, helping them to gain confidence on stage as well as improve their public speaking ability. I feel confident in my ability to teach and guide students in this subject matter.

Knowledgeable and patient

Heather was awesome with my 7 year old son. She held his attention and he responded well to her instructions. He loved the books she picked out for reading and the flash cards spelling words was a hit! I later heard my son talking good things about having his own private tutor.

Heather is a fully certified full time teacher in a local school district as well as a private tutor. With her advanced studies in early childhood development and child psychology she is ideally suited for helping our daughter in a 1 on 1 setting, providing that individualized help that is just not possible in a class of 20-30 students. She has worked with our daughter while being in contact with our daughter's regular school teacher to help her in focused way that compliment the actual school curriculum.
