Bio

Hi! I am a recent Stanford graduate with a BA in Japanese Studies and a BS in Computer Science. I was also named a Fulbright Research Fellow to Japan.

I have been speaking Japanese for 10 years, 2 of which I spent studying and working in Japan. I have been N1 certified since 2023 and have been employed by Stanford to tutor Japanese language students for over two years.

In addition to Japanese, I have a degree in CS with a specialization in Computational Biology. I've aced Stanford coursework in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, algorithms, and math. I also co-authored 2 papers on Large Language Models that were archivally published in ICLR and ICLR DMLR.

I scored a 1570 on the SAT the first and only time I took the test. I have been certified through TutorDoctor to help students prepare for their SAT. Let's work together to beat CollegeBoard!

I have been tutoring Japanese for 5 years, 2 of which I was tutoring as a Stanford employee under the Center for Teaching and Learning. My students have ranged in age from kindergarten all the way to graduate students, and all ranges in between. Although I am not a native speaker, I have achieved near-native proficiency by attending a public Japanese high school in Aichi before coming to Stanford. Many of my students find this actually gives me an edge on tutoring as I understand what it's like to learn Japanese as a native English speaker. I have interned several times in Japan, demonstrating my abilities in professional Japanese--most recently last summer at the Mitsubishi Research Institute and am a semifinalist for a Fulbright research fellowship to Japan after my graduation. I have also received several full-time offers from Japanese companies to work in Japan, demonstrating my capability in the language.

The best Japanese tutor I've ever had

I'd been looking for a Japanese teacher for some time and have tried 5 other tutors off Wyzant. I thought native tutors would be best but was surprised to find that Mario could explain the language best. I guess it makes sense since he was once in my shoes and now has a native-like level of proficiency so he understands how to explain things to someone else whose first language is English
