About Felipe

Thanks for visiting my profile,

When I was in high school, I began tutoring middle school students in Spanish and Algebra. After graduating from Williams, I continued to tutor middle and high school students. Thanks to my well rounded background (Spanish/Math/History), I am able to help students with all areas of their curriculum.

In the past, I have helped students meet their short-term goals (homework assignments, exams), while cultivating long term study patterns. I don't just want students to pass a test or finish an assignment, I want
them to learn!

I strive to teach students strong fundamentals within any subject (e.g. your student is moving onto to Algebra I, but is still struggling with factors and multiples, a necessary skill for solving quadratic equations). Moreover, I also like to inspire students by showing them their academic strengths and encouraging them to develop them further. (e.g. your student demonstrates passion when writing an essay, so I encourage working a little bit harder to perfect the organization, vocabulary and theme of the essay).

I prefer one-on-one tutoring and enjoy engaging my students with real world situations to allow my students to fully understand the relevance and necessity of learning. For example, whenever a student tells me "Math is lame and pointless", I'll explain how iPods and home-runs are all dictated by the laws of Mathematics.

Please contact me about any questions you may have! I look forward to working with you to reaching your learning goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

English is one of my favorite subjects. Learning how to write, think critically and express your ideas is an exciting process I enjoy teaching with patience. I emphasize composition, reading of a variety of texts from fiction to academic to popular, and understanding of the language.

SAT Reading

SAT Reading is a great subject. It demands working on your vocabulary, critical thinking and reading quickness. I like to work the challenge by breaking it down in categories of questions and working carefully in each one.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker with exceptional composition and verbal skills, command of grammatical structure, and knowledge of linguistic terminology. I like to teach kids by patiently letting them engage with the subjects, without fear of making mistakes. I like to do vocabulary, reading, and specially writing.

Writing

Writing is one of the hardest challenges for a young student, but one of the most fruitful. I encourage students to see how improving their organization, vocabulary and tone they can express their own ideas clearer. When the student starts seeing the fruits of his labor, writing becomes an exciting opportunity for expression and thought.
