Hi there! I’m Greg, and I am a dedicated tutor with an experienced background as a teaching aide in university undergraduate and graduate courses. My experience spans over 10 years, where I have had the privilege to teach advanced courses in science and engineering. As a tutor and a teacher, my primary goal has always been to empower students by building their intuition in their subject matter and to do so in a supportive environment.

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude and in the Commonwealth Honors College. I have a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, where I have focused on the design and construction of infrastructure and associated systems.

In teaching you in your subject of interest, I put in a strong effort to put myself “in your shoes” and find the right pedagogy which matches your learning style. I do care about where you are in your intellectual journey, what fundamental issues you may be grappling with, and how adjustments in environment and communication can best enhance your learning. I truly try to understand you and empathize with your needs, so that together we can achieve your goals.

When I tutor students such as yourself, I lead by guiding them through a series of questions that I find will help them explore and fill gaps in their knowledge at a core basis. However, I do this while also providing students with as much independence and discretion as possible. In this pursuit, my aim is to give students the academic freedom to explore topics in a manner best suited for them, while also providing the necessary “guide rails” to ensure students remain on task.

Throughout my time as a tutor and teaching aid, many students have expressed to me that I am a passionate and compassionate teacher, with a strong commitment to students’ learning. This has led me to the following accolade, which has been provided by one of my students to my school as a recommendation to continue having me as a teaching aid

Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering

I have a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, where I have focused on the design and construction of infrastructure and associated systems. Additionally, I have developed sub-foci on data science applied to infrastructure systems, operations management, and the chemical/environmental engineering associated with wastewater treatment. My courses have ranged from construction management, life cycle assessment, and engineering economics in construction. I regularly apply the methods I learned in this field to my work in operations management of infrastructure systems, whether that be the individual infrastructure assets and their configurations with a system. I also have intern and part-time experience in this domain, where I have worked with auto-makers to plan infrastructure systems out into the future.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Summa Cum -Laude and in the Commonwealth Honors College. I have a solid foundation in Mechanical engineering, perfecting all of the basics such as statics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, the design of mechanical components and assemblies, while also gaining a breadth of knowledge in tangential subjects such as bio mechanical engineering, aerodynamics, and physical and chemical processing of materials. After my undergraduate degree, I worked one (1) year in venture capital, using my knowledge to perform due diligence of companies in manufacturing and materials, and developing CAD models for prototype products of our portfolio companies. I still very much use a lot of this background in my research, both in academia and in private, where I use thermodynamics and kinetics to develop battery chemistries for aqueous battery systems.
