I am qualified to tutor a wide range of mathematics and physics subjects based on my extensive academic background and experience communicating technical concepts. I earned my B.A. in Physics from Northwestern University, graduating with a 3.91 GPA, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Applied Physics at Stanford University. My undergraduate and graduate coursework has given me a strong foundation in mathematics and physics, ranging from introductory through advanced university-level material.
I am comfortable tutoring mathematics subjects including arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and other college-level mathematics. In physics, I can tutor introductory physics as well as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, thermodynamics, modern physics, quantum mechanics, and other advanced undergraduate physics topics.
Throughout my education and research, I have developed extensive experience explaining difficult mathematical and physical concepts to others, both one-on-one and in collaborative academic settings. My approach is to first identify exactly where a student’s understanding breaks down and then build the concept back up from first principles. I emphasize intuition and conceptual understanding before connecting the ideas to equations and problem-solving techniques. I also adapt my explanations to the student’s level and learning style, using diagrams, examples, step-by-step derivations, and practice problems when appropriate.
I am comfortable working with students ranging from middle school and high school students through undergraduate college students. Because of my background in advanced physics and applied mathematics, I am also able to help students who want to go beyond their standard coursework, prepare for advanced classes, or develop a deeper understanding of the material.
