I am a PhD Candidate at Stanford University in linguistics, and am passionate about applying linguistic concepts to language learning and accent modification (English and Spanish). I received a bachelor's in linguistics, a master's in linguistics and philology from the University of Oxford, and am now researching for my dissertation.
I have taught English and Spanish to adults, both in the classroom and as a tutor, and have taught college students in linguistics subjects over the past several years. Besides this, I have experience as an administrator and community liaison in an elementary school, handling disciplinary issues as well as working as a translator/interpreter and community organizer.
My methods focus on using linguistic ideas to teach languages better. Where traditional classes fall short, that's where I pick up—in teaching in scientific and specific ways things like pronunciation (how to move your mouth to make foreign sounds), meanings (the way meaning and words map differently in different languages), and cultural context, among many other things.
I look forward to working with you!
