My name is Cassandra! I have a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from San Diego State University and have been tutoring math since 2016. I have a deep love for mathematics and want to share that enthusiasm with my students whenever I can. My goal when tutoring is for my students to understand the "why"s instead of just memorization and algorithms. I find that focusing on the concepts helps students make connections between past, current and future material. I strive to make sure that students have a strong foundation and are never just coasting along. I also believe that one of the best ways to learn is to make mistakes, and the best way to make mistakes is to practice! Depending on a student's grasp of the material, I tailor my lesson plans to have an appropriate balance of explaining concepts and guided practice.
My experience with tutoring started in my freshman year of college when I would volunteer at peer to peer tutoring events, and I started doing private tutoring shortly after. My private tutoring has mostly consisted of high school students with some college students mixed in as well, but has spanned all ages. I also have a part-time job as an instructor at a math tutoring center where I have been tutoring K-12 for about 3 years. I am valued at that job for my encouraging attitude and my proficiency with algebra, geometry, and statistics. I have worked with a wide variety of students with many different learning styles and am adaptable with my teaching.
Currently, I am only tutoring online. I use a tablet so that I can screenshare a virtual white board where I can write out problems and explanations or answer questions. I am happy to work with you to figure out how to best use whatever camera setup you have. I would love to help you/your child succeed in math if I can, so please feel free to get in touch!
