I’m Paul! I graduated from San Francisco State University (SFSU) in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics combined with a minor in Computer Science. While at San Francisco State University, I was honored on the Dean’s list 3 times, competed on the Mathematics team, and tutored by fellow students in group environments. I’ve always felt teaching is a great way to solidify your knowledge on a subject.

I have 8 years of tutoring experience. My first tutoring experience was when I was in high school where I tutored students, after school, and as part of our AP Calculus BC class I was taking. I went on to score a 3 in both AP Calculus BC, and AP Physics AB. After high school, I went on to privately tutor a larger number of middle and high school students in the Los Angeles area. My sister, 6 years my junior, recommended me to their friends. I left this business behind when I moved to the Bay Area to continue my education. While at SFSU, I also tutored peers as well as students at a San Francisco middle school in their after school program.

I am very comfortable teaching students in both middle and high school, college, and adult education. Algebra, pre algebra, algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, as well as basic math are all subjects I am confident in helping you learn.

My technique is to work with the student to understand where there are gaps and weaknesses. From there work backwards and forwards with multiple different examples and methods in order to find an example that makes sense to the student. In math, understanding where the foundation of the lesson’s subject comes from often helps with learning.

I now feel it is time to transition back to teaching and tutoring after 3 decades working as a professional software developer. I do love teaching and tutoring. Seeing that moment of clarity for students is truly rewarding.
