Hello!
My name is Sora and I am a current undergraduate student studying pure mathematics at Pasadena City College. I have been accepted into and plan to transfer to UC Berkeley this fall to finish my Bachelors in Mathematics. I have been a tutor at PCC's Math Success Center since August 2025, with experience tutoring Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus I-III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. I also have been working as an educator for 3 years, and as of next month, I will be a CRLA certified tutor.
My teaching philosophy is adaptive to each student's needs, though as a whole I work to instill intellectual independence and confidence in one's own abilities. My experience educating a wide age and subject range has trained me to quickly identify where students need the most support, be it gaps in knowledge, conceptual understanding, or study strategies, and fill this gap. I specialize in one-on-one or small group settings as this tailoring process is unique to each individual.
I myself have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my education, and received 5s on AP Calculus AB / BC exams as well as a 35 on the ACT. In order to achieve this, I have maintained proper study habits, emphasized a first principles understanding in subject matters, and trained quick pattern recognition skills for standardized testing. All of these skills I aim to strengthen within my tutees.
All in all, I am here because I am quite passionate about math and love to share that passion. I work on a lot of self study (currently in topology), and I'm happy to discuss theory with any curious students. I am of the belief that anyone can achieve anything when they enjoy the process, so I hope that we can find some fun in learning together!
