Bio

Hello everyone! My name is Brian and I am currently a fourth year undergraduate studying physics at the University of California San Diego. I'm a huge fan of any type of game and particularly enjoy games like chess, poker, catan, tennis, pickleball, spikeball, and league of legends. I also enjoy teaching new students in subjects that I have experience with. In high school I used to give group lessons at an elementary school's chess club. It could get pretty hectic with about 80 students showing up each week but I enjoyed being able to share my knowledge in chess with the kids. I also used to be a volunteer tutor in high school focusing primarily on math and science subjects. It's really satisfying to me seeing somebody improve at a subject after teaching them.

I have been playing chess competitively for 10 years now. I used to play in many tournaments but have switched to playing mainly online since the pandemic. My peak United States Chess Federation rating is 1964 and on chess.com it's 2381 which is in the 99.9th percentile. When it comes to chess, I love playing, teaching, or discussing games with players of any level. I've helped some of my family members and friends improve at chess by teaching them more advanced strategies. In high school I also would teach chess at a local elementary school and at a chess summer camp for elementary students so I have some experience teaching kids and people with little to no experience. Whether you are completely new to chess or feel like your rating has hit a plateau recently I'm confident I'll be able to help you improve.

I have played chess competitively for ten years and have achieved a United States Chess Federation rating of 1964 and a chess.com rating peak of 2381 which is in the 99.9th percentile. I have taught chess at an elementary school for two years and at a summer elementary chess class so I have experience teaching as well. I have taught chess to many friends and family as well and would like to extend my teaching to new students on Wyzant.
