An experienced and credentialed tutor, I have over ten years of experience helping students develop their reading, writing, and study skills. I received an M.F.A in creative writing at Emerson College where I also taught writing composition to freshman students. My classes covered writing and reading skills, grammar, punctuation, and essay structure. After completing my M.F.A, I taught writing and reading to students at the Boston
Architectural Center.
In addition to teaching writing composition for several years at the college level, I also taught reading workshops through the Institute of Reading Development (IRD) to students ranging in age from preschool through adults. Using IRD's reading enrichment program, I encouraged active reading and thinking, helped students improve their reading recall and comprehension skills, shared effective note-taking techniques, and worked with students on increasing their vocabulary.
Most recently, as I completed my single subject teaching credential in secondary education, I taught Language Arts to an academically diverse group of 7th grade students. As an instructor, I provided detailed feedback on student essays and met individually with students and parents. I tailored reading lessons to accommodate English Language Learners.
Working as a private tutor, I have taught third through twelfth grade students, focusing on study skills, grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary building, and writing composition. Positive and caring towards students, my teaching style is based on respect, and is always supportive of students’ personal and academic growth.
