About Robert

Hello,
My name is Robert C.-
I have 30 years of experience in teaching and tutoring. My undergraduate degree is in Biology- with a specialty in Neurological Biology. I have worked as a Respiratory Therapist specializing in Adult and Neonatal care. As a Tenured Professor I specialized in Cardiopulmonary Care and was the lead professor and Program Director for the Respiratory Care Program at Napa Valley College.

I have taught Basic and Advanced Anatomy/Physiology; Pharmacology; Basic Chemistry (specializing in Acid-Base Balance; Geriatrics; Basic and Advanced Biology; Basic and Advanced Cardiac Care; and interpretation of ECGs. Preparation for National Boards in Respiratory Care, Nursing and Emergency Care Professions is also available.

I love teaching and have spent my life devoted to improving my teaching style to fit the needs of my students. I am honored to say that I was selected as Distinguished Teacher of the Year at Napa Valley College.

I have attended, completed, evaluated and developed many online courses. I earned a M.Ed with a specialty in Online Teaching and Learning. My thesis was based on the efficacy of distance learning for Nursing, Health Care and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

If our geographical distance is prohibitive for face-to face instruction, I would like to suggest that you consider Online Teaching and Learning. Studies have shown that Distance Education students typically mirror, and often EXCEED, students learning in a face-to-face classroom. WyzAnt has an excellent online classroom that we can use.

My entire life has been devoted to teaching and learning. I have learned there are many approaches to teaching and there are many ways in which people learn.
My approach to teaching and learning is to have have fun and create a safe, supportive and creative learning environment that can be applied to "real world " experience. Learning is not just memorization- it is understanding, evaluating and applying.

THE BEAUTY and ART OF TEACHING and LEARNING: There is an internal feeling that cannot be described when a student "gets it"; the light comes on or shines brighter-and a smile is created.

I would enjoy working with you to achieve your goals- I am one click away...!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

My undergraduate minor is in American History. Although I have not taught "for credit" classes in this subject, I have been a guest lecturer and have taught community education classes in the past. I am an avid reader of American History and love learning as much as I can. I was a member of American History forums and belong to several discussion groups.

Anatomy

I have extensively instructed students in all concepts of beginning and advanced Anatomy. Anatomy of the cardiopulmonary, neurological, vascular and renal systems are a few examples of my specialty areas. I have extensive experience instructing in face-to-face, as well in online classes.

Biology

I have applied and taught cardiac and pulmonary care for almost 30 years. I have extensive knowledge and practical application in Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology. My undergraduate work was in Biology. I later earned a MEd degree in Online Teaching and Learning.

Organic Chemistry

Course curriculum in earning my Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology required successful completion of the equivalent of 7 quarters of organic chemistry. In addition, my Respiratory Care education required organic chemistry as part of the core curriculum.

Beginning and advanced concepts and application in organic chemistry were an integral part of the Biology and Anatomy and Physiology classes that I taught for almost 30 years within Health Care.

Pharmacology

Part of my undergraduate work and my degree work in Respiratory Care required extensive knowledge in all aspects of pharmacology. I have taken several pharmacology courses and taught 18 week modules in my Respiratory Care program. I was a yearly "guest" lecturer in the Associate Degree Nursing program.

I have extensive training and usage of pharmacology were utilized in my Advanced Cardiac Life support classes as well as Cardio-Pulmonary, Neonatal and Adult Critical Care and Nursing Trauma classes.

Physiology

As a tenured professor in Respiratory Care, I have instructed students in both face-to-face and Online classroom settings, in all aspects of human Anatomy and Physiology.

I have a BS in Biology; course work involved extensive lecture, lab and clinical classes dealing with the human body. My MEd. is in education with a specialty in Online Teaching and Learning.

Uncanny ability to explain very complex concepts in a non stressful, accurate and complete way

I imagine that many of you deal with test anxiety. I certainly do. Robert has perfected the art of reducing the stress of education. He communicates his knowledge in a way that not only strengthened my areas of weakness; but equally important, he boosted my confidence to a level that I have not previously experienced. As an added bonus, his knowledge of “how to take a test” should be offered as a
