I graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Language Studies (Concentration in Spanish). After spending the following year in Spain to improve my Spanish fluency and receive a Diploma of Hispanic Studies in Granada, in 2016 I pursued a Master’s degree in Translation (English<>Spanish) from the prestigious Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA. I have a passion for connecting with others and using empathy to help others grow and develop; although the translating/interpreting profession was fulfilling my love of languages, I wanted to expand my career path to teaching languages. Having enjoyed tutoring children in Spain in 2014-2016, I decided to return to Spain this past fall and partake in the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course at International House Barcelona, where I received a Pass A grade. During the course, I fell in love with teaching languages and it came very naturally to me. My strong background in linguistics, along with my native level of English, near-native level of Spanish, and beginner level of French, give me a strong foundation in language knowledge, how a foreign language is taught and learned, and understanding and explaining difficulties that arise when learning a new language. I love it when my students begin using the language I have taught adequately. As a teacher/tutor, the best feeling is seeing that what you are teaching is making sense to your students and they are learning from you. I tutored children in English in Spain from 2014 to 2016, which prompted my decision to receive my CELTA certificate last fall. My strengths include connecting and developing rapport with students, working with students on meaning, pronunciation, and form, explaining linguistic concepts and challenges in detail in a comprehensible way, and teaching in a lively and engaging manner.
