My time in the US Navy sparked my passion for teaching and tutoring. As an electrician, I guided fellow sailors in understanding complex equipment, and I saw how empowering it was for them to gain a deeper understanding. This experience taught me the value of patience, clear communication, and breaking down complex concepts into manageable parts.
I pursued my passion for mathematics and education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, earning a degree in mathematics and a master's in education. I also earned a California teaching credential, which has allowed me to teach and tutor students of all ages and levels.
As a teacher and tutor, I create a supportive learning environment that fosters a growth mindset. I believe every student can develop a deep understanding of mathematics with the right support and mindset. I've had the opportunity to work with students in a wide range of mathematical subjects, including number theory and number sense, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics and probability. I take a student-centered approach, emphasizing persistence, creativity, and self-reflection to help students build confidence and develop problem-solving skills that will serve them well throughout their academic and professional careers.
