My name is David, and I am a Freshman at Pomona College in Claremont, CA. I graduated as the Valedictorian of my high school class and received scores of 5 on all AP English and history exams. Since my junior year of high school, I have worked with middle and high school students in one-on-one tutoring and peer academic support settings. I specialize in English, history, college essay and application coaching, and test prep including SAT reading/writing and AP classes (including but not limited to) AP U.S. History, AP English Lang, AP English Lit, and AP Human Geography.

I believe effective tutoring is primarily interpersonal rather than purely academic. While a strong understanding of the material is important, I focus heavily on adapting explanations to each student’s learning style and building confidence alongside academic skills. My tutoring sessions typically begin with current classwork or homework support to reinforce concepts students are actively learning, while also incorporating additional materials and exercises to strengthen foundational reading, writing, and analytical skills that may not be directly emphasized in class.

I primarily provide one-on-one tutoring in order to maximize engagement and tailor lessons to each student’s needs. Parents are encouraged to share resources or areas of concern so that sessions can remain focused and productive.
