My background in tutoring is both professional and volunteer, and both in-person and on-line. As a professional, I have established individual and small group sessions for students having difficulty with concepts and materials in a wide variety of English, business, economics, law, career development, safety and security, and related courses. These sessions have resulted in substantial performance and grade-level improvement. As a volunteer, I was involved with Literacy Volunteers and Companion Animal Owner Education for years. The latter included appearances in grade and high schools, before church and other groups, and at humane societies, where I explained the importance of proper animal care and treatment, and dealing with animal issues. I also handled over four hundred cases of animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty, many of which required owner education, with followup to insure that lessons were learned. I also design and teach community and college courses and seminars, with a focus on critical thinking and content-related issues.

During several decades of both full time and part time college and university teaching and tutoring, I have adhered firmly to certain basic principles: first, the instructor or tutor must perform each and every assigned task professionally, competently, and completely, and should always try to go the extra mile with tutoring responsibilities. Second, course materials pertinent to a particular subject or topic must be presented clearly -- and in terms relevant to student backgrounds and experience, with timely current examples used as illustrations whenever appropriate. Third, performance expectations need to be specified in consultation with those being taught or tutored, so that full agreement can be reached. Often, a needs assessment is the first step in the tutoring process, and we then go on from there.

Further, students and those being tutored must be treated with consideration and respect, and encouraged to do their best work. When actual performance falls below cours

My undergraduate college work majored in business administration, with emphasis on management. I also took courses in all major business disciplines, including marketing, public relations, accounting, and finance. In addition, I have owned and operated several small firms, including a community care home in Vermont and, currently, a publishing business. I am also a business consultant, specializing in safety and security matters.
Career Development

Career Development

Having taught career development courses at several New England schools, such as the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams and at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in New London, CT, I am well-experienced in the requirements for sound career management and enhancement. Reinforcing this academic background is my own career path, which includes serving as executive director of several major community agencies; selling securities and managing a securities firm for twelve years; working as an emergency manager in New England, specializing in hazard mitigation; and consulting in all of the above areas as well.
Creative Writing

This experienced creative writing tutor, author of ten professionally-published books in the genres of novels, poetry, self-help, and autobiography, is available to review and improve English creative writing, including poetry, short and long fiction, and serialization of submissions. As to tutoring in this area, I have tutored both in person and on line in the areas of writing, English, ESL, etc.
English

English

Among my qualifications to teach English composition, I have proofed and edited all sorts of documents including term papers, reports, books, and dissertations. For ten years, I edited and published an award-winning weekly newspaper, and since then have written and published seven books ranging from poetry to novels to self-help format. My English tutoring includes service for Literary Volunteers for non-native English speakers. I also tutor in English literature and am available on line during the entire year, and in North Georgia from October to May.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have been reviewing student essays from high school to doctoral levels for Wyzant.  Further, as a Plymouth State University First Year Seminar teacher, I was responsible to critiquing required essays on themes ranging from similarities among different serial killers to the rise and fall of Communism, et al.  I also taught the Chinese Contingent at Brenau University how to write essays in English, involving teaching them critical thinking as well as rules for avoiding plagiarism and other essay issues.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

I taught fiction writing as part of the FIRST YEAR SEMINAR required of all students at Plymouth State University in NH. Each student was required to produce an original paper, many of which were fictional in nature, which I then reviewed and critiqued. I also served as a reviewer and editor of various works, including fiction, for Lang Publishing Company of Riverside, California. I have also tutored in Fiction Writing for sevéral other tutoring services and have authored ten professionally-published books, as well as many shorter fictional works, including science fiction, historical and hypothetical fiction. Having received excellent reviews of prior tutoring for new writers of fiction, I am now available to review and improve your own writing, including advising on publication options.

Law

Law

As a semi-retired professor of business law among other subjects, as well as heading agencies which submit briefs on legal issues, I have considerable experience with both general law and with legal briefs, which I have submitted to the courts and governmental agencies. I have worked with many international students as a professor, including those for whom English is not a first language. I have also critiqued cases and other materials produced by law students in several related courses, and have provided general tutoring as well,
Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics

I have tutored students at grade levels from middle school through graduate school in study skills for several decades. Not only is teaching such skills an inherent part of all of my courses -- but now that I have done on-line teaching for three years, I work with individual students who are having problems mastering the material. I would need to know more about the specific situation facing the student in Gainesville, GA in order to determine his exact requirements, so I would start with a needs assessment, a standard practice. If the needs assessment indicates that I can provide the necessary guidance and assistance, I would be happy to work with this student.
Marketing

Marketing

Running several small businesses, I was responsible for all marketing functions, including public relations, direct and indirect sales promotion, fulfillment, planning and related marketing tasks. I have also served as a marketing consultant in New England, developing and critiquing advertising and other materials. In addition, I am a copywriter and author of several relevant works.

Personal Statements

Personal Statements

My experience in this area includes serving as a volunteer admission screener for both MIT and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, both of which required my review of applicant personal statements and other admission submissions from candidates.  In addition, both for Wyzant and on behalf of my former students in CT, MA, and GA, I often reviewed and critiqued their personal statements et al. for grad school or for some professional training such as law school or med school.
Proofreading

Proofreading

As a semi-retired professor and experienced tutor, I have worked with students to improve their writing, spelling, grammar, and usage of English. My previous tutoring ranges from reviewing undergraduate and other reports and term papers to helping students to improve masters level and doctoral level work, in a variety of fields. My background in proofing and editing includes ten years of publishing an award-winning weekly newspaper in Connecticut, as well as improving many public relations projects. A needs analysis based on a thorough review of the draft of the work would be a vital first step towards making it outstanding!
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

My public speaking experience covers a wide range of themes and topics, ranging from business promotion to social and community issues. I have spoken at numerous conferences, workshops and seminars, to groups ranging in size from a dozen to several hundred. As the author of seven books and many reports, I also speak to groups of writers and authors, presenting my own works and on occasion related works as well. I also speak regularly at such public events as holiday celebrations, civic activities, and on similar occasions, and in addition conduct meetings on numerous topics.
Reading

Reading

My English tutoring experience includes service as a literacy volunteer, proofing and editing all sorts of reports, term papers, book, and even doctoral dissertations. I published and edited a weekly newspaper for ten years, and have six published books to my credit, in various genres. My first step with students is to focus on their needs and develop a study plan. I am also quite conscious of need for affordability when it comes to tutoring.
Social Studies

Social Studies

My experience in social studies covers a wide variety of specific courses and programs. As a community leader, I have served as head of several social agencies ranging from charities to service organizations to civic groups. I have also conducted many training sessions for staff and board members of such agencies, which have been very well received. My focus is on the needs of various population groups, and on the blending of those groups into the American culture -- as well as the problems which often occur over that blending. Living and studying summers in my wife's homeland, Sweden, I am also quite familiar with the European perspective on social studies in a number of countries in Europe.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have several decades of both full time and part time college and university teaching and tutoring. As to study skills, all of my teaching and tutoring is aimed at improving students' abilities to learn the material thoroughly, and to retain it, which is equally important. While I would need more specifics to present the manner in which I would approach improving the study skills of the international student who is looking for a tutor, in general I would first do a needs assessment as to his knowledge of both English and the subject matter of his course. I would then work with him or her toward a structured set of lesson plans aimed at enhancing his abilities in the subject matter. With more details of his or her needs, I could be more specific.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

This experienced thesis-dissertation tutor has assisted graduate students in all areas of social science, including economics, sociology, psychology, and other research areas. My experience includes my own successful graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Pacific University. I completed my own dissertation done at Columbia Pacific University, for which I invented and presented a whole new economic system, COOPERATISM, which involves firms being controlled by multi-representational boards which include representatives of the general public, workers, and consumers. Also, my most-recent tutoring has involved reviewing peer-reviewed articles which are comparable to theses although shorter than dissertations. My own Master´s thesis in economics was produced for the University of Pennsylvania, where I also advised my fellow graduate students on their own theses, dissertations, etc. One of those students whom I mentored went on to help a professor win the Economics Nobel Prize during the 1980s for his pioneering work in econometrics.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

As a native English language speaker and writer, I first developed a fulI vocabulary early in life and used it to pursue various goals including three college and graduate degrees. I also published an award-winning newspaper for ten years in New London, CT, which required me to do all proof-reading and editing. I have written four books of poetry, a novel, a semi-autobiography, and a self-help book on managing your finances. I also work with college and high-school students, focusing on writing techniques, improving grammatical and spelling skills, and critical thinking -- and have received excellent reviews from those whom I have tutored or taught. I am available as needed. During summers, I am available on line; otherwise, I can be available on-line or in-person, in the North Georgia area.

A magnificent and passionate econ teacher! Thank you, Dr. Eugene!

To put it simply, my sessions with Dr. Eugene were nothing short of invaluable. He expertly guided me through a convoluted jumble of economics, and the final paper––if it has any merit at all––was largely his doing. He was very flexible with our sessions and quick to reply to anything I sent his way. He also has some of the best stories––you get to hear them every now and then. A superb experience from top to bottom. I certainly look forward to working with him in the future. ~Kent

Dr. Eugene is Pleasant and Willing to Help Out on Last Minute Notice

What I like about Dr. Eugene is he is local. I don't have to worry about time difference. He is on PST like me. After my class at 8pm, we had a session no problem. Also, he is easy to work with. He's willing to work with you according to your needs and your availability. It's nice to have a tutor that will take out some of your worries. I have problems in writing and takes me forever to finish my assignment. Even I already spent several hours with homework, still not quite acceptable. I am pleased that Dr. Eugene is available to help me out. Looking forward to asking his help again in the future.

Dr. Eugene made it so much more simple to understand my assignment in Macro Economics. He was extremely flexible with ways of communicating considering I live/work far from his area.

Amazing!

Dr. E. has been a complete blessing for my second-year college student son! He was incredibly easy to contact, and provided essentials to getting his grade up from barely passing to passing with flying colors! He has prepared my son for his Microeconomics final, and gave him perfect explanations for anything he was questioning. My son kept talking about how great of a tutor Dr. E. was, and has expressed interest in keeping in contact! I recommend his tutoring services to anyone!
