I have a B.A. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, along with more than five years of tutoring experience. My background gives me extensive experience across both quantitative and biological sciences, including mathematics, statistics, biology, ecology, data analysis, and R programming. As a scientist, I use mathematics, statistics, and programming to solve real-world research problems, and I enjoy helping students develop the skills and confidence to tackle these subjects themselves.
I have worked with students for more than five years through tutoring, teaching, and academic mentorship, including one-on-one instruction and university-level educational settings. I have helped students with mathematics, biology, statistics, and quantitative problem solving, as well as more advanced topics such as research methods, statistical analysis, and R programming. My experience working with students at different levels has taught me that the same explanation does not work for everyone, so I adapt my approach to each student’s background, goals, and learning style.
My tutoring philosophy emphasizes understanding rather than memorization. I break difficult concepts into manageable steps, identify where a student’s understanding begins to break down, and build from there. In math and statistics, I focus on helping students understand why a method works rather than simply memorizing formulas. In biology and ecology, I use real-world examples to make abstract concepts more intuitive. For R and data analysis, I work through problems interactively so students learn how to think through the analysis and eventually solve similar problems independently. My goal is for students to leave our sessions with both a better understanding of the material and greater confidence in their own problem-solving abilities.
