Bio

I'm currently an undergraduate at UC Berkeley majoring in Cognitive Science, and I graduated from Harvard-Westlake School. I scored a 760 on the SAT Reading & Writing section, and I self-studied for both AP English Language and AP English Literature during my junior year of high school, earning 4s on both exams.

In summer 2024 I co-designed and led a seven-session Reading & Writing bootcamp for the August SAT. Sessions were online and small-group, with high school students joining from across the world. Many were preparing in their second language, which meant working through passages at a different pace and being more deliberate about vocabulary and sentence structure than a native speaker would need. Students left 25 ratings across the series, 16 Helpful and 9 Super Helpful, with no negative reviews. I've also worked one-on-one with students on Reading & Writing prep.

Most of my work is diagnosis. Students rarely miss questions for the reason they think they do, and the fix is usually narrower than expected: one recurring trap, over-reading, or rushed elimination. Sessions are student-driven. You do the work, I ask why, and if you can't explain your reasoning back to me, we're not done with it. It's slower than simply giving you the answer, but it's the kind of learning that sticks when you're taking the exam. Finding where the gap actually is and building the scaffolding around it is most of what I'm good at.

Whether you're aiming to break 700 or build a stronger foundation, we'll identify the habits holding you back and replace them with ones that hold up on test day.

SAT Reading

I'm a Schoolhouse.world certified SAT Reading & Writing tutor, certified through the free peer-tutoring nonprofit Sal Khan started, which means I passed a subject test and had my actual teaching reviewed by other tutors before I was cleared to work with students. Two summers ago I ran a seven-session R&W bootcamp for other high school-aged students prepping for the August SAT, many of them taking the test in a second language, and walked away with 25 positive ratings and zero negative ones. Here's what makes me good at this: I don't drill you through hundreds of random questions and hope something sticks. Students almost always miss for one specific, fixable reason, a comma splice they can't hear, a subject-verb trap that pulls them to the wrong answer, a transition that sounds smart but breaks the logic, and I find that reason fast and kill it. You'll leave knowing exactly why the right answer is right, which is the only thing that holds up when you're alone with the test.

I also self-studied for both AP English Literature and AP English Language and scored a 4 on each, so the grammar and rhetoric this section tests is material I've taught myself cold. Here's what makes me good at the Writing section specifically: it runs on a small set of rules the test uses over and over, and most students lose points to the same few traps without knowing it, a comma splice they can't hear, a verb that agrees with the wrong noun, a transition that sounds smart but breaks the logic. I teach you to spot the rule being tested in each question, so instead of guessing by ear you know exactly why one answer is right and the other three are wrong.
