I have spent more than 20 years helping students discover that math and science explain the world around them. I hold both a BS and MS in Mathematics Education from Florida Institute of Technology. I have held a professional certificate for teaching grades 6-12 mathematics for over 10 years. For eight years I was Mathematics Department Head at Florida Air Academy, where I taught middle and high school students in courses from pre-algebra through AP Calculus and mentored other math teachers.

From 2008 to 2022 I worked in NASA's education programs. As an Education Specialist for NASA's Digital Learning Network, I taught live, interactive STEM lessons to K–12 classrooms across the country. As Technical Director for NASA Next Gen STEM, I helped create national classroom resources, including coding simulations and engineering design challenges, and aligned them to Common Core Math and NGSS standards. Today I lead Sim 4 STEM, a program that uses motorsports simulation to get young people excited about STEM careers.

My tutoring approach rests on one idea: students learn math best when they understand why it works, not just which steps to follow. In our first session, I find where the real gaps are, since trouble in algebra often traces back to fractions or number sense. From there I connect new ideas to what the student already knows, use visuals and real-world examples (space missions are a favorite), and ask students to explain their thinking out loud so we both know the understanding is solid. I am patient and encouraging, and I work to rebuild confidence as much as skills. Whether your student needs to catch up, keep up, or get ahead, every session is built around their goals.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have taught and tutored Algebra 1 for more than 20 years, including as Mathematics Department Head at Florida Air Academy. I specialize in the foundations that make or break algebra: working with variables, solving equations and inequalities, graphing linear functions, and systems of equations. When a student is stuck, I look for the underlying gap, which is often fractions, negative numbers, or order of operations, and fix it at the root. My goal is for students to leave each session understanding why the steps work, not just memorizing them.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have taught and tutored Algebra 2 throughout my 20+ year career in math education, including as Mathematics Department Head at Florida Air Academy. I help students master quadratics, polynomial and rational functions, exponentials and logarithms, and the function transformations that tie them together. Drawing on my years creating STEM lessons for NASA, I use graphs and real-world examples to make abstract ideas concrete. I also make sure students build the skills they'll need for precalculus and beyond.
Calculus

Calculus

I have taught and tutored Calculus as part of more than 20 years in math education, including as Mathematics Department Head at Florida Air Academy. I help students understand limits, derivatives, integrals, and their applications. Calculus problems often break down because of small algebra or trig errors, so I watch for those gaps and fix them as we go. My NASA STEM background lets me show students how calculus describes motion, rates of change, and the physics of flight.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have taught and tutored Precalculus as part of more than 20 years in math education, including leading the math department at Florida Air Academy. I cover the full course: functions and their inverses, exponential and logarithmic models, trigonometry, vectors, and sequences and series. Precalculus is where many strong students first struggle, so I connect new topics to what they already know and fill any algebra gaps along the way. My aim is for students to walk into calculus confident and prepared.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I have taught and tutored Trigonometry for more than 20 years, including as Mathematics Department Head at Florida Air Academy. I help students build real understanding of the unit circle, right-triangle trig, graphs of trig functions, identities, and trig equations. My years in NASA's education programs give me plenty of real-world applications, from rocket launches to orbital paths, that help trig concepts stick. Students learn to reason through problems instead of relying on memorized tricks.
