Exceeded Expectations - Structured, Motivating
My daughter has been trying to learn French from DuoLingo on and off for years. This summer, she said she wanted French lessons, because she felt that she needed something more than DuoLingo in order to progress. I am so happy that we found Sophie. Here's why: (1) My daughter was nervous about her skills, but after the first session with Sophie, she said she definitely wanted to continue, and later that evening, she said she was going upstairs to study her French! (2) Great communication before we signed up and now that we're in the process. (3) She asks the student to attempt to write a phrase, then writes the answer on a whiteboard that she shows on screen so the student can check their work. I think this process helps with memorization. (3) She provides a written summary of what was taught after each class, which is mostly helpful for me! (4) We have the record-session box checked, so my daughter can go back and check anything if her notes were not complete, or she wants to check pronunciation. (5) After two sessions to assess my daughter's level, Sophie settled on a textbook that both we and she will have so that will make it easier to assign homework etc.

AP French - Sophie is wonderful!
I reached out to Sophie to maintain my French during the summer break and to help prepare for the AP French exam I will be taking in May. Not only is Sophie knowledgeable about the structure and content of the exam, but she was able to help me improve the sections that I struggled with most such as listening comprehension. I ended the semester in my high school class with an A, and that is in no small part due to the support and clarification our weekly lessons provided. After taking almost 4 years of high school French, I’ve never had such a strong grasp of the language as I do now as a result of her lessons. Merci!

Sophie was excellent - all that I could ask for. She limits the amount of English spoken during the lesson, using simpler words and tenses to help me understand (and help me make myself understood).
