I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from UC Berkeley, along with Associate's Degrees in Math, Physics, Natural Sciences, and Social & Behavioral Sciences from Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC).
I have over 10 years of experience teaching math, the majority of it in one-on-one tutoring settings. For eight years I worked as an instructional aide at SRJC, where my responsibilities included individual tutoring, supporting instructors during class, leading group study sessions, grading, writing quizzes, and delivering lectures. I also participated in the Teaching Fellows Program twice.
Throughout this time I have also worked consistently as a private tutor with high school and college students, including students from SRJC and UC Berkeley. Over the past two years, first while completing my degree at UC Berkeley and continuing after graduation, private tutoring has been my primary focus. Over the course of my career I have worked with hundreds of students.
My teaching style is patient and adaptive. I don't rely on a single explanation and if one approach isn't clicking, I try another until I find what works for that student. I have had particular success with students who struggle with math or who have had negative experiences with it in the past. Once a concept is introduced, I spend significant time asking questions rather than moving on, because real understanding shows up in what a student can explain back, not just repeat.
I work best with students who are genuinely motivated to learn. Prior knowledge and current skill level don't concern me; what matters is that a student shows up ready to engage.
To make the most of our time together, I ask that students share topics/problems they would like to cover before our session. This allows me to prepare thoroughly and tailor the session specifically to what you need.
