My name is Brynn! I am 29 years old and have worked with children and in various realms of education for what feels like my entire life. In highschool I worked as a tutor in a second grade classroom and over summers worked as a camp counselor. I was eventually promoted to become the program director of the summer camp; overseeing and planning outdoor educational activities for over 150 children while also managing 20 staff members. I later received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Diego State, focusing on child development and early childhood behavior courses.
After graduating I made the decision to become a teacher in a foreign country! I moved to Thailand where I received my TESOL certification, and proceeded to teach English in a Thai High School. I had 6 classes of over 40 students per class, and was responsible for all lesson planning, instruction and grading. I eventually made the transition to teach online where I taught students in China, offering one-on-one instruction as well as large group classes.
After returning home, I quickly became a substitute teacher and taught a range of grade levels at different schools. A Middle School quickly offered me an Instructional Aid position, where I worked full time in a classroom assisting students with academic or behavioral setbacks that required smaller group or one-on-one instruction. I currently work at the same school but have moved into the role of a “super sub;” where I cover maternity leave and other long-term assignments.
I feel lucky to have gained all of the experience that I have, and am extremely passionate about working with children and helping them to achieve their academic goals. I believe when students get the attention they need and are able catch up or even to thrive academically, that it improves their confidence overall and translates into other areas of their life. I understand and wholeheartedly believe in the importance of education and am so excited to be able to help more students!
