Italian, French, and Writing Tutor

I have a B.A. in Comparative Literature from U.C. Berkeley and a PhD from Yale University in Italian Language and Literature. I have been teaching college for the last seven years but am now trying to make a living writing, tutoring, and working as an editor. What I love most is teaching students who are motivated, and I have found that this describes the vast majority of students who seek a tutor. So I look forward to getting back into tutoring (which I did as an undergrad and grad student).

I am very qualified as an Italian teacher--I speak and read it fluently, have spent a good deal of time in Italy, and (most importantly) the majority of my teaching experience is as an Italian teacher (at Yale and UC Berkeley), so I know very well which fundamentals to emphasize to get you ahead. I also speak and read French, lived in France for nearly two years, and can teach elementary French or help you with French reading. If you are looking for a single tutor who can help with the basics in multiple languages I can help you also with Spanish and German, though if you're looking for a tutor in these languages only you should probably seek a tutor who specializes in them.

I am a published author and have worked as an editor and translator on multiple articles, encyclopedia entries, and book-length works. Many years teaching literature and film classes and reading and composition classes have shown me the best ways to edit and proofread academic papers so that I am not simply solving students' problems for them but showing them how to avoid them in the futures. I can help you with a variety of different problems in your writing (academic, creative, journalistic, etc.), and can help especially to help you structure academic papers and conduct analysis (rather than summary) in your papers.
