Hi there! I'm Mark, and I love helping kids discover that they're way more capable than they think. There's nothing better than watching a student who felt stuck suddenly light up because they figured something out on their own. That moment is exactly what I work toward in every session.

Hi there! I'm Mark, and I love helping kids discover that they're way more capable than they think. There's nothing better than watching a student who felt stuck suddenly light up because they figured something out on their own. That moment is exactly what I work toward in every session.

I used to be an instructor at Mathnasium, where I got to work with more than 250 students from kindergarten through Algebra II, mostly one-on-one and in small groups. I also carry 7 years of tutoring experience with me, as I put together lesson plans that meet each student right where they are, and I keep track of their progress so we can celebrate the wins along the way. My favorite way to teach is through Socratic questioning. Instead of just giving answers, I ask friendly, guiding questions that help students work through each step themselves. It might take a little longer at first, but it really sticks! Kids remember what they learn, and when test day comes, they feel ready to tackle problems on their own without needing someone next to them. Seeing that confidence grow is my favorite part.

Working with kids has always been a big part of my life. I've been an Autism Behavioral Technician supporting students ages 6 to 18, and since 2020 I've run Hoops for Autism, a basketball program I started for kids with autism. I've also coached camps with more than 300 kids, including at Cal Poly. All of this taught me to be patient, flexible, and to keep things fun, because kids learn best when they're relaxed and enjoying themselves. I have a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and I'm now working on my Master's in Regenerative Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, so I'm happy to help with science too! I tutor elementary and middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, biology, chemistry, and general homework. I'd love to help your child build skills and confidence that last!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

At Mathnasium from 2021 to 2023, I taught Algebra II to high school students one-on-one and in small groups, covering linear and quadratic equations, systems of equations, polynomials and factoring, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and complex numbers. With each Algebra II student, I started with an assessment to pinpoint gaps in their foundation, such as weak factoring or exponent rules, and then built an individualized lesson plan that rebuilt those skills before moving into new material. During sessions, I walked students through problems step by step using Socratic questioning, having them explain their reasoning so I could catch mistakes, like dropping a negative sign when distributing or confusing log rules, before they became habits. I also created practice assignments, gave written feedback on their work, helped them prepare for unit tests and finals, and tracked their progress over time to show measurable improvement. I met regularly with five fellow instructors to align our teaching methods and address student concerns, and I've continued using these skills in statistical analysis for my microbiology research at Cal Poly.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

From May to October 2025, I worked as an Autism Behavioral Technician with The Stepping Stones Group in San Luis Obispo, California, where I provided one-on-one behavioral support to children ages 6–18 with autism. In that role, I tailored interventions to each child's developmental goals, sensory needs, and learning style, and I collected and analyzed qualitative and quantitative behavioral data to track progress, identify trends, and evaluate how well each strategy was working. I applied data-informed behavioral management techniques to support measurable day-to-day growth, adjusting my approach as each child's needs changed. Since July 2020, I have also founded and led Hoops for Autism, a community basketball program in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where I design individualized lessons for children with autism based on their skill levels, sensory sensitivities, and behavioral goals.
Basketball

Basketball

In July 2020, I founded Hoops for Autism, a community basketball program in Lake Oswego, Oregon, for children with autism, and I have led and coached it ever since. As the program's coach, I design individualized lesson plans for each player that account for their skill level, sensory sensitivities, and behavioral goals, so every child can develop fundamentals at their own pace. Since September 2023, I have also been a member of the Cal Poly Basketball Scout Team, where I help prepare the university's team by running opposing teams' plays and schemes in practice. Through both roles, I've learned to break down basketball skills clearly for players of all ages and abilities while keeping practices structured, encouraging, and fun.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have five years of private tutoring experience and taught math at Mathnasium from 2021 to 2023, working with students one-on-one and in small groups. I help elementary students build strong foundations in place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions and decimals, measurement, and word problems. I start by identifying gaps in a student's understanding, then use hands-on examples and step-by-step guidance to make concepts click and build confidence. I hold a B.S. in Microbiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and am currently pursuing a Master of Science at Cedars-Sinai.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have five years of private tutoring experience and taught math at Mathnasium, working with students one-on-one and in small groups. I help students master core prealgebra skills, including integers and negative numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents, ratios and proportions, order of operations, and solving one- and two-step equations and word problems. I begin by assessing each student's foundation, then guide them step by step and have them explain their reasoning so I can catch mistakes early and build lasting confidence for Algebra 1. I hold a B.S. in Microbiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and am currently pursuing a Master of Science at Cedars-Sinai.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have five years of private tutoring experience and taught math at Mathnasium for another 2 years, working with high school students one-on-one and in small groups. I help students master the key precalculus topics, including functions and their transformations, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometry and the Law of Sines and Cosines, and complex numbers. I know precalculus can feel overwhelming because it combines so many concepts at once, so I break each topic into organized, simplified steps that help students understand the reasoning, retain what they learn, and feel ready for calculus. I hold a B.S. in Microbiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and am currently pursuing a Master of Science at Cedars-Sinai.
