Hello! My name is Jake, and I’m a music producer, audio engineer, and performing artist with a degree in Music Technology and Sound Engineering from the University of Michigan.
I work professionally as one half of the electronic duo HLWA and as a solo producer under the name Wally. My experience includes producing and releasing original music, recording vocals and instruments, mixing, live electronic performance, and creating educational music-production content for an audience of more than 13,000 people on social media.
My goal is to help students turn the ideas in their heads into polished, high-quality productions while building the skills and confidence to work more independently. Depending on your goals, we can focus on beat-making, arrangement, recording, sound design, audio effects, mixing, songwriting, or developing a more efficient creative workflow.
I especially enjoy helping beginners learn production without making it feel intimidating or overly technical. I also work with intermediate producers who feel stuck, struggle to finish songs, or want to take their music to a more professional level.
My lessons are practical, collaborative, and project-based. Rather than following the same rigid curriculum with every student, we will work directly on the music you want to make. You can bring in an existing project, start a new song from scratch, or focus on a particular skill. Just as importantly, I want lessons to be enjoyable. Music production takes patience and hard work, but the process should still be fun—that enjoyment is what keeps you curious, motivated, and excited to improve. I’m here to help you build confidence, find your creative voice, and create music that feels true to you.
Lessons are available in person at my studio in Santa Monica or online. I want every student to leave each session with a clearer understanding of the production process, tangible progress on their music, and excitement about what they can create next.
