I’ve been tutoring for over 20 years. I spent most of my career at Cabrillo College, where I ran the drop-in Math Learning Center, and I hold a master’s degree in mathematics from UC Santa Cruz. I also train other math tutors in effective strategies for tutoring math, create software for communicating math over the internet, and have taught both high school and college math. Now retired from Cabrillo, I tutor students one-on-one, in person around Santa Cruz and online. I have a large number of students who have successfully completed math classes they found challenging. All of the AP calculus (AB and BC) and AP Statistics students I have worked with have gotten 5’s on their exams. Also, doing math homework and prepping for math exams involve different strategies. I’ll show you how they are different and help you be successful at both.
My goal is to work with you so that you understand the material and are proficient enough to get the grade you want on math exams. I’ll help you learn to use resources available to you and show you how math language can be diluted so that it makes sense. I’ll also help you fill in holes in your understanding that make it difficult to understand what you are learning now. Further, I can show you how to analyze your own work so that those pesky errors that lower your test grades are minimized. I also work with students to help them make the most of math lectures.
My focus is on helping you ask the questions you need to ask to be successful. It works for the students I tutor and it can work for you.
Let’s talk and see how we can tackle the challenges you are having with Math.
Cheers,
Ed
