My name is Kaighen and I have around a decade of technical experience ranging from computer science, game design & development, programming, web development and 3D modeling.

I have been a teacher, TA & Tutor - in person, for local tech nonprofits, and through other online platforms. I have logged no less than 3 years of experience, with over 1000 hours, teaching students as young as 8 to more advanced learners in their 50s, though I am comfortable with ages in between.

A bit more about me, I graduated with degrees in Computer Science & Psychology while pursuing a triple minor. I've studied a number of ways ranging from academically & professionally, to online, self-taught and through boot camps.

I'd consider myself a "Holistic Learner" & aspire to be a Polymath or “Renaissance Man”. Something I aim to impart to my students is ‘understanding over repetition’. Don’t just accept a given answer, ask yourselves “why?” and dig a little deeper. Focus on processing the material using a range of resources & general critical thinking skills.

If interested in tutoring with me, please let me know about some of your favorite subjects & interests. I may factor them into how I can best assist or tutor you.

C#

C#

C# is a commonly used, object-oriented programming language developed by Microsoft. Today, some common uses of this multi-paradigm language include the Unity 3D (3-dimensional) game engine and ASP.NET web development. As a programmer with a computer science degree, I have utilized this language to work in web development, on web applications, and have spent more than 1200 hours in video game development using this language.
Computer Gaming

Computer Gaming

Grew up gaming. I spent a few years building mods for super smash bros, then obtained a degree in computer science. Indie game developer.
Computer Science

Computer Science

A degree in computer science & psychology contribute to the ability to better explain advanced concepts in helpful ways. I have programmed in a number of languages, ranging from Java & JavaScript to C# and Ruby (and more). The more languages you know, the easier it becomes to learn new ones.
CSS

CSS

I have been developing customized websites from scratch no less than 3 years. With a degree in computer science & a focus in secure web design - layering & animating website elements via CSS animations has become a specialty and focus. This includes 3D animations and gamification of web sites
Unity

Unity

I have coded in Unity C# for over 7 years and worked with indie studios. My experiences include the procedural generation of terrain and worlds, multiple forms of video game AI nav systems, combat game programming, experience systems and UI controls, button interaction, HDRP pipeline, shaders, visual effects, & other forms of tech art.
Web Design

Web Design

Web development is an interesting skill with a lot of variance. From front-end (design) to back-end (functionality), to UX (does the user understand how to use the site?) and full-stack (all the above, to a certain extent), there are a lot of skills to process in this field. For personal experience, I have been operating as a part of a web development business for over 2 years and, during that time, have designed & developed full-stack and basic web pages for clients and independent projects. These projects have ranged from 3D/VR web applications, animated web sites with falling feathers and seamless page transitions, to hovering, glowing information boxes and eyes that follow you around the page as you explore. I have a broad, full-stack basis with which to tutor students, but I find front-end to be more interesting.

Excellent tutor for 5-6th grade kids!!

We tried a couple of tutors for our now 6th grader. When we found Kaighen, we stopped looking. He's been with Kaighen for 6+ months now. He loves how Kaighen is patient and explains things in a way he can understand. The biggest thing is our 6th grader loves learning to code and Kaighen helps inspire this.

First lesson was a hit!

My son just started working with Kaighen, and so far it is a great experience, and his presentation was just what we'd hoped for and just what we were anticipating from his bio and credentials. I think Kaighen is a great tutor given our specific needs, as he can gauge what his student wants and needs and provides information and guidance in an accessible way. We look forward to continuing to work with him.

Excellent tutor, highly recommended!

Kaighen is teaching my son Unity and C# and my son is really enjoying the lessons with him and making great progress. He is breaking down the lessons to different topics every week and trying to cover game design and coding principles at the same time while keeping my son engaged with cool homework assignments. Highly recommended!

Amazing programer

Kaighen is, to put it simply, an amazing programmer. In the two hours Ive hired him so far he has helped me fix several issues with my Unity engine game that have been plaguing me for months, he has also explained to me very clearly why they were happening so that I can stop them from happening again in the future. I cant recommend him strongly enough.

Great instructor, extremely knowledgeable.

I have worked with Keagan three times now and he has truly helped me understand C# and Unity. He is by far among the best tutors I have had.

Long term mentor

I’ve decided to keep Kaighen as my long term mentor in C# - I don’t even need to consider other options. Guy is a WIZ at teaching and breaking items down in such a way, it’s easy to digest. Can’t go wrong with Mr. Kaighen!
