I tailor my teaching to you - for students looking for conversational practice, I ask good questions that allow you to maximize your opportunity to speak, for readers, I maximize your comprehension through not only reading practice, but comprehension questions. Whatever you want to learn, I can help!

In terms of what I am qualified to teach: I am a native English speaker, meaning that I can help with ESL and English for learners of all levels. I also studied abroad in Japan, and can teach beginner Japanese up through 1st year college level Japanese.

In terms of my experience, I earned my B.A. in Classical Studies from Santa Clara University. While at Santa Clara University, I worked as a Lead Tutor in the HUB Writing Center at Santa Clara University, assisting students with writing help. The majority of the students were graduate level students (law, business, and engineering), but I also worked with undergraduates. I earned an M.A. in TESOL at Columbia University, where I did both student teaching and served as a teacher assistant. After my Master’s I served as a director for a small ESL program for students with low levels of education.

A wonderful tutor

I think Hallie is a great tutor. She provided me with appropriate suggestions to improve my English ability. I am lucky to have met her! Not only for the foreign learners of English like me, she has much capability as a teacher for anyone because she quickly understands the students' levels and knows how to steer them to a higher level. And the lessons are always comfort and enjoyable. I highly recommend her as an English tutor.
