Hi! I'm Esther. I'm studying econ & accounting at UC Santa Barbara. I’ve had 2+ years of experience being a volunteer online tutor for multiple subjects from 1st-12th grade. Not only have I created individualized lesson plans for students to get ahead in school but also assisted students in developing study skills and provided homework help for those struggling in school.

I've had 30+ hours of experience ESL online tutoring 1:1 for elementary students in vocab, reading comprehension, grammar, and speaking. I developed interactive curriculum like Kahoots for fun review, crossword worksheets, picture prompts, and using articles/topics the students picked to motivate them. I’ve also fulfilled 40+ tutoring requests as a UPchieve tutor, assisting with math (pre-alg up to trig) & humanities HW (essay planning and feedback).

In addition, I was a peer tutor for those seeking homework help through my high school’s Terra Nova and ESL tutoring program. For example, I helped a student write an annotated bibliography by guiding him on finding and summarizing credible sources. I helped him draft an email asking for an extension, make a to-do list, and went over the rubric together. Remembering how he'd never done much research because of the pandemic, I was reminded how we all have different strengths, weaknesses, and backgrounds.

As a tutor, I strive to be understanding and empathetic, motivating students through process-focused praise and asking open ended questions to lead students to the correct answer. I will make sure to incorporate student/guardian feedback by having additional practice material prepared and more!

My SAT math score is 760 and SAT reading/writing is 740. I got a 5 for AP Gov, AP Lit, Calc AB and Calc BC; a 4 for AP Micro and AP Enviro Sci. My hobbies are origami and reading historical fiction books. I am fluent in English and Korean.

I look forward to meeting you and feel free to contact me with any questions you have or to schedule a session.

For those who want to get ahead of school, I generally teach material from textbooks/worksheets like from CK-12 or Kuta Software. Of course, this can be adjusted based on student/guardian's request. College Counseling

I’m a recently graduated Californian high school senior so I am up to date with what colleges are looking for. I have 1+ years of experience helping students with the college application both through a volunteer organization UPchieve in Application Essays and brainstorming/proofreading my classmates’ application. I am willing to help research your college list, go over your extracurricular activities, and read over UC Personal Insight Questions, the Common App essay, as well as supplementary essays like the Why Major or Why College X. I’d be happy to explain the college searching process such as how to use tools like Niche and more! I have been accepted to Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, Santa Clara University (private schools), UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara; and Purdue University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Indiana University.
Korean

Korean

I am fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Korean. I have 3+ years of experience working with kids, youth, and Korean speakers. I was a Teacher Assistant for Saturday Korean School and volunteered for my Korean-speaking church like with VBS. I was a TA for kindergarten & first graders who spoke Korean at home in addition to upper level elementary schoolers who didn't. Thanks to this experience, I am confident in teaching hangul and beginner level Korean vocabulary & grammar. In addition to answering any questions students had and correcting their work, I also helped prepare activities like cultural crafts/games/songs and read aloud children's books. I will tutor Korean using materials such as the King Sejong Institute Foundation's Sejong Korean textbook series or the Foundation for Korean Language & Culture in USA's Epic Korean textbook series. Of course, this depends on the student/guardian's request. I will supplement with children's books, Quizlet, Blooket, Quizalize and Kahoot to review vocabulary.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Hello, I’m a college student who went through the Californian public education system. My SAT reading score was a 740 and I received a 5 for the AP Literature exam. I have 1+ years of experience working with lower elementary schoolers (1st, 2nd and 3rd graders) as an English tutor for the Learn in Shelter organization. I helped students learn vocabulary by using articles/topics the students picked to motivate them, word search or matching worksheets, and Kahoots for fun review. I am willing to go over homework assignments, help study for a vocabulary quiz, go over methods like using context clues or root words to guess the definition, and more! For those who want to get ahead of school, I generally teach material from workbooks like from the Wordly Wise series, Scholastic’s Amazing Word Power Grade X: 100 Words Every Xxx Grader Should Know series, Khan Academy’s ELA courses and worksheets like from BigLearners.com, ReadWorks, KidsWordFun, and K5 Learning. Of course, this can be adjusted based on student/guardian's request. I believe reading and practice is key to improving vocabulary so I will make sure to provide plenty of time for students to do so. For example, I will ask students to make up a sentence using a vocabulary word. I will supplement with children's books, Quizlet, Blooket, and Quizalize to review vocabulary.
