I am a graduate from one of the 3 best engineering schools in France, with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering for which I earned national and international awards, with around 20 journal articles/proceeding/conference papers published.
Since a little child, inspired by my mum who is a teacher, I am passionate about tutoring and helping classmate improving their understanding. From elementary school, where I helped friends improve their reading/writing skills, to Stanford where I was a Teaching Assistant for a graduate mechanical engineering class, I have always enjoyed teaming up with my students to reach this "Eureka!" moment.
I can score 800 on SAT math, with a comfortable leftover time margin. Besides the apparent diversity of questions, there are actually a limited number of patterns that are embedded in different contexts. My teaching then relies on 2 pillars:
- How to extract the pattern at play, focusing on the key words. This will demystify the questions that may be intimidating because they seem to contain a lot of information to process
- The train of thoughts that covers all the types of resolution of a pattern
Being able to map all the different patterns require a good understanding though the broad spectrum of field covered by those tests. And they can be approached in different ways depending on how advanced one's background is. As there are tons of practice material available, the interest of a tutor resides in knowing well enough their student profile and defining their personalized roadmap to become comfortable in executing the aforementioned 2-pillar strategy.
