I have a degree in Ecology and Evolution (B.S.) from UCSB and a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Biological Science from UNAM, and I have worked in ecological research for the last couple of years. In addition, I have experience as a science educator at the elementary school and the college level. At UNAM, I lectured on ecology and wildlife management and advised students on their undergraduate thesis projects. My experiences in research and education have trained to work with students from many different educational levels and communicate with them effectively. From personal experience as a student and science educator, I believe that learning, especially in the biological sciences, should be based on gaining a deep understanding of processes. I enjoy working with small groups, and tutoring allows me to work closely with students to develop their abilities and tailor my method to each individual.

I am a biologist with experience in ecology, zoology and botany. My background is in research, where I have focused in plant and mammal ecology. In the last couple of years, I studied seed dispersal by bats in tropical forests and their effect on germination and seedling survival. I have also worked in the field of ecological restoration and marine sciences.

Spanish is my first language since I am originally from Cuba. I also lived in Mexico for several years, where I obtained a Master's degree. During that time, I also taught classes at the university and worked as the lead editor of a science outreach blog. Through these experiences teaching and editing outreach and scientific texts, I was able to develop excellent written and verbal communication skills, and I can help you improve yours as well.
