I'm Robbie! I'm an English teacher in Santa Barbara looking to offer my expertise this summer. I hold a Bachelors degree in English from Cal Poly SLO & a Teaching Credential from Vanguard University. I've spent the past year teaching 7th grade English Language Arts at La Colina Junior High; this means designing lessons, assessing student work, and providing specific feedback on a daily basis. I also co-teach an English Language Development 7th/8th grade class, which has provided me with experience working with multilingual students and building foundational English skills from the ground up.
Before that, I spent a summer teaching English as a Second Language at AOI College of Languages. My students ranged in age from 10 to 50 years old, most of whom immigrated to California from China, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea! Working with small groups of four to six students at a time gave me the kind of focused, personalized instruction that tutoring is all about. I've also worked as a substitute teacher across Santa Barbara Unified School District; I've taught at every high school and middle school in the district. Chances are you've seen me around!
My approach to teaching and tutoring is student-focused and low-pressure! I meet students where they are, figure out where they're stuck, and build from there. Whether it's essay structure, reading comprehension, or general writing confidence, I'm equally comfortable and prepared to work together.
